Some thoughts after upgraded tires

Don't know if body-roll is the right term here, in short, the entire sideway action feels much more natural with the stock tires on. Whenever you break the traction entering a corner the car just slides more naturally. However, when I upgraded the tires to the Michelin PPS, sometimes it feels like even though the chassis wants to break away, the tires are holding it back. As a result It's sort of all over the place.

Anybody has any similar thoughts?

consider the compound stickiness between the two and you have your answer.

It's just the normal result of increasing tire grip levels without making any other changes to the suspension. Where your tires would break loose before there was much body roll before, now they grip harder and body roll/suspension compression is the result.

So, go stiffer on the suspension to work better with the grippier tires? I have a set of sticky as a stalker chic Advans ready to bolt onto my BRZ when it arrives so

This is the first review I've read or heard that was disappointed in the upgrade. R&T, Consumer Reports, Tirerack and everyone else said that this is the first thing they would do if they had one of the twins.

not sure why... i love my stock tire feel. they have the right amount of grip for me at least while i drive through canyons and hard turns. never had a slip problem or lack of grip.

The car is fun to throw around on stock tires of course, but if you stiffen up the suspension it'll be more entertaining with sticky tires. It'll grip of course more than anything, you wont really be able to slide around as much until you start adding on power, but without a nice stiffened suspension it wont be as entertaining as it was before.

this is exactly why manufacturers match the spring rate to tire grip. As people mentioned before in this thread, you will enjoy it more when you upgrade to stiffer suspension to compensate for the added grip. I am experiencing the same with 245/35/18 michelin PSS but it will be remedied with a nice set of coilovers

I did PSS tires and immediately felt a huge difference. Suddenly a tight 120 degree turn next to a guardrail didn't have me worried. (stock tires felt like they might slip there, the PSS are planted.)

I've been amazing at the cornering speed these PSS can take without breaking traction! Car feels great to me - maybe you're either not turning smoothly enough or not used to the higher g's you can now pull in corners. Took a right hander recently that I figured would definitely get the car loose - front or back... something! It gripped and never slipped - really blew me away. But now I realize I probably can't find that point of traction loss on dry pavement without going crazy fast. The stock tires would lose grip and squeal like a pig at such low speeds, it was very predictable to drive with the back end loose around turns.

Oh - had to swerve doing 70+ mph on highway bc something was in my lane (obstructed view from car in front till I was nearly hitting it). I jerked the wheel to the right, shifted the car within its lane about 2' over, and was seriously impressed with again just how planted the car was. Suspension felt great - didn't lean etc - car reacted beautifully without drama.

I am not exactly disappointed, the grip is great when you try to go fast. But since everybody is saying how necessary the tire upgrade is, I just wanted to provide some different thoughts. It's one of those the car would be better in certain ways if it's worse kind of situation.

I could still throw my car around like it was on prius tires on 255 wide Z2s last year without any power mods.

Its all in how you drive your car.

I guess the point I am trying to make is that for most people, choosing a direction of mods is really important. What do you want out of this car. Sideways fun? Speed? Rice? Again, I not disappointed with the added grip, I just wasn't sure what to expect until I get used to the new feel.

A lot of people think that the making of a stock car is just all sorts of compromises and any aftermarket parts will make it better. For those people, maybe obnoxious exhaust, subwoofer, led lights and tons of body kits is the way.
