4AGE sounding exhaust?

hey guys,

so i've been reading up on all the various and different approaches that can be taken in regards to exhaust mods for
the ZN6/86...

i know there are EL and UEL type headers, catless headers are best for performance gains, etc...

in regards to purely aesthetics/cosmetic reasons my favorite so far is the jdm trd quad tip exhaust...

ive also read much about the famous subaru rumble... however im not really interested in the subie rumble since my previous car prior to buying my FRS was the previous generation 86 (a 1985 Corolla GT-S AE86 Hatchback) and i really miss the sound of a 4AGE.

this is why i was wondering if there's anyway to make the exhaust for the FRS sound smoother like a typical 4AGE would sound? (while also improving the performance of the car?)

for reference i have included some videos of 4AGE exhausts and what they sound like below:

AE86 with Fujitsubo exhaust:

Keiichii Tsuchiya's 7AGE equipped AE86, you can hear the exhaust starting at 3:35:

appreciate the help guys!

The boxer will never ever sound like a 4AGE.

I used to own a 1st gen MR2 myself, and as much as I loved that exhaust note I think you'll be chasing dragons trying to replicate it with an FA motor.

Auto Factory race exhaust is about as good as you're going to get...gets you to a nice honda level sound at least. No idea how you'd get one though. There was a older video on YouTube when the GT86 was first out but no longer can find it... this is the next best one.

I like my SRT exhaust sound, but not really a fan of dual tip exhaust on this car. Going to be make a custom single central exit catback with race muffler replacing stock resonator, using all Burns Stainless components, which I've had for a while. Have no idea what it will sound like but should be interesting.

Ace header would get you the best sound from an EL setup IMO. Has zero rasp paired with a modest catback. Really considering swapping out my UEL for it. OP, AVCS tuning will give you that mechanical engine sound that the 4AGE produces.

Best option: swap in 4AGE.

Next best option: buy AE86.

Most realistic option: don't bother going for the 4AGE sound. It won't happen. You can get good sound with decent headers and front pipe as others have suggested, but it won't be close to what you want.

ACE header really sounds like a well tuned I4 in the vids I've seen... Probably the closest you'll get.

ACE Type-A 150 header with a single exhaust. Let us know if we can assist in your setup.

thanks for the replies guys. much appreciated. i'm really liking the sound of the ACE header from that video CounterSpace Garage! would keeping the dual exhaust or the trd quad tip affect the sound much? and what's performance like for this header? anybody got it installed in here?

also i saw someone comment about Honda sound? seriously? lol wtf? No Hondas for me thank you very much...

and yeah if i could id probably just find myself another ae86 and try building a blacktop 7age like keiichi lol maybe later or when im rich like donald trump!

thanks once again guys.

Having owned both, ACE 4-2-1 is about the closest you'll get, as long as you don't put on a stupidly low/loud cat-back that amplifies the boxer sound that still exists even with EL headers.

I've got a long tube EL header with a full Titanium exhaust. It definitely doesn't sound like a Subaru. LOL. I'll try to post a video of it later. I think you'll like it.
