@wbradley I concur with that post, I know Fiat struggled getting the 500 crash worthy, it means that the Abarth still doesn't have a 6 speed manual transmission along with gaining a couple pounds.
The thing that sold me on the viability of the s660 is that converting the price from Yen to USD, it could be under $20k, I can't think of anything else I'd rather buy new under $25k, especially if they cram the 1L in there... |

Hey what about the mid-engine sports car Toyota was planning to position just below the twins? I think they were watching Honda doing it over the fence and considering copying them.

The S660 exists, I'll put my eggs in Honda's basket over Toyota's. And I'd still be highly interested with the 67hp. |

I don't think they ever actually confirmed it was going to be mid-engine. People just think it might be because they're hoping it's an MR2/MRS successor.

It was never mid engined, in fact at the beginning the rumor was an FRS with a 1.5 liter engine and totally decontented.
Kei cars are being imported with the over 25 year rule, just not that many of them. if any of them would have been imported new it would have been the Cappuccino, Initial D helped pump that car into infamy. |

We have dealers here selling RHD Japanese cars less than 25 years old. Not sure what the rule is for Canada but I have seen R34s, R35s, S-15s, mid 90's Evolution IIIs I think, and early WRX's literally 2 miles from my house on the lot. I posted a ton of pics here around 2 years ago. Also, the Mazda Cosmo looked cool. Apparently RHD cars are a bitch to insure though. The same dealer also brings in LHD Alfa Romeos, Benzs and Renaults from Japan. I like to visit regularly to see all the cool cars we never had here. Probably 100 different models that were super cool including trucks. There were 2 Honda Beats on the lot a few months ago. They are the size of an MG Midget.
They also had a late 60s or early 70's Skyline GTR mint classic in the showroom and another one I cant remember but similarly valued.

Kei cars don't meet the same safety regs as regular cars, that's one of the reasons they are so cheap. Also, the car might have been designed/engineered with the assumption that it would only ever be RHD.
So unless they planned from the beginning to build both RHD and LHD variants, and that it would have to meet US safety regulations, they probably aren't going to re-engineer it after the fact to meet these requirements. Also, if they did do all of that work from the very start, then that might make it too expensive to sell as a kei car in the first place. |

New Mugen Honda S660 GARU Concept Has A Very Chiron-Like Face
Making its world premiere today at the 2017 edition of the Tokyo Auto Salon is the Mugen GARU, a concept-bodied version of Honda’s S660 mid-engine roadster.
Mugen, a Honda racing and tuning subsidiary, hasn’t released any information on the GARU, leaving the pictures to speak for themselves. From the looks of it, the only exterior parts of the S660 roadster that remained untouched seem to be the head- and tail-lamps, plus the door handles, as every single body panel is a custom creation. It might not go like the wind, as there’s so much you can do to the Honda S660’s 0.66-liter turbocharged three-banger that’s rated for 64PS (63hp) in stock form, but the GARU certainly looks the part thanks to Mugen’s wide-body costume aided by chunky rims that fill up the bloated wheel arches. We don’t know if Mugen’s designers did it intentionally or not, but we can’t help but notice that the front end of the GARU bears more than a few similarities to the Bugatti Veyron’s face. Mugen made no word of any production plans, but these builds are usually limited for show and tell only. |

Not a fan of what Mugen did here. I prefer the stock S660.

Yea, on the bright side, they managed to make the factory design look good in comparison.
