6x9's Stealth install - rear speaker replacment

A weekend DIY project I'm working on. I wanted to replace the piddly 3inch (or whatever they are) speakers in the rear of my 86 and I was certain I could fit a pair of juicy 6x9's and a little amp back there.

The good news is 6x9's fit nicely.. the better news is you can even sneak in a pair of 6.5's next to them (ok so I got carried away).

The stock rear cover fits back over the speakers (without the speaker grills) and I've managed to align the voice coil on the 6x9's with the stock speaker port on the plastic cover, so when it's finished it will appear totally stock but sound a damn sight chunkier.

I'll do a build thread once it's all done.

Nice find! Any chance you have dimensions on your MDF baffle or a max depth?

The Metra speaker size guide says that it's 4" deep, but the pics all seem like there's more:

There's no such thing as overkill, when you hang out with guys like these.

BTW, this was one of my glorious ideas of what to do with a RAV4:

That last one may be one of the most ghetto things I've seen in a car all year...

No no no and no. Lose the 6x9 speakers and put in an identical second set of 6.5s or better yet just lose them all and put in an infinite baffle 6.5 bass driver, not to be confused with a mid-bass. You are begging for muddy sound mixing those in there like that.
I have to admit to being confused. How is this going to be stealth? Either you cut openings for the speakers (goodbye stealth) or you try to make the speakers all fire out through the stock speaker opening (hello rattles).
Kudos for taking the initiative to make up the boards. How deep is it behind them? Could an eight get in there?

I'll measure up and get you a depth. It's pretty deep, plenty big enough to accommodate the magnet of any 6x9, 7x10, 8" that you'll get in there.

And yet it was the loudest configuration I found in that car... and I built like 20-25 boxes for that car. 145.7 dB from 2 10's and 2000 Wrms. 30s of Pink Floyd was the track.

I can't say it was professional, but it was loud. BTW, the duct tape gained significant SPL.
