I still can't believe you think the badge means that much.

Jaws of life will cut thru any pillar (A,B, or C) on any Subaru, unless they are highly reinforced by the owner. Many reasons you may see firefighters avoid cutting them them is to prevent cutting side curtain air bag actuators.

Glad I paid 6 months in advance on my insurance... That way it'll only hurt come April.

Damn this really sucks for the people in the car and for all of us as well. It's like what people were saying, theres going to be stupid people that are going to fuck everything up for everyone else. Insurance is going to be high as fuuuuu. I'm kinda regretting getting the car now because of dumb people. This is my first RWD car I have ever driven, but I listen to what people say on these forums for first time RWD and it works flawlessly. If anyone reves their engine at me or tries to race I just ignore them. I don't want to risk my life or anyone else's life and I sure as hell don't want to raise insurance prices for everyone.

This fucking sucks on soo many levels.

Hopefully we find out more about this story from people involved. Luckily the passengers are fine. As a driver I always want to insure my passengers will be safe, so I am glad to see that this was the case here.

A bit off topic, but...

It's funny how most of you are complaining about insurance going up. It seems it's alot different in the states than it is here in NZ, but from my experience here the insurance rates depend on your driving history and your own history alone.

I am actually getting this car for cheap insurance rates. Well, technically they won't be cheaper but they will be a better deal. Here is what I mean:

Previous costs/current quotes in NZD:
-$2K Rustbucket/first car (owned) = ~$1000 a year for full insurance with current discount factored in
-$5K Toyota Trueno BRZ (owned)= ~$1000 a year for full insurance with no claims discount
-$13K Honda Integra Type R (current)= ~$1000 same as above
-$40K Honda S2000 (quote, was thinking this instead of 86) = same as above
-$47K GT86 (New GT86 price here) = same as above
Just for laughs I tried:
-$60K BMW = same as above.

It seems the only difference here is sometimes the insurance company will say no if they don't want to insure you, but from my observations the amount I am paying has always been the same. So I thought, damn, if I have to pay this much for insurance, I may as well get a brand new car.

But yeah, I can see it hard getting insurance here after a few of these have been crashed here.... Shouldn't affect me too much as I would have already had my insurance approved

Our rates use our record plus the crash statistics for each vehicle, age, credit rating, vehicle value and all sorts of crap that doesn't amount to much.

Found this at IIHS.

The Ferrari California was 748% more likely to be in a crash last year than average. I'll be interested to see what next years statistics say about the Scion/BRZ.

To the couple fighting about the BRZ/FRS crash rates. It's been stated by every car review comparing the two that the Subie has understeer at the limit and the FRS has oversteer. Yes the FRS is going to crash more when people run out of talent.

Let me repeat:
THE SCION FR-S IS NOT A RACECAR
This was a FR-S owner street racing, so the Scion badge doesn't have much to do with it. Even if it was a Toyota, he's be in the same boat (probably).
