ok so you're saying tsuchiya is a ricer? everyone that gives handling and balance more priority than power/weight ratio is a ricer? so i guess that means horsepower freaks and 1/4 mile drag queens are the only guys keepin it real and everyone else is a ricer, right?

You missed my point Cyde, read it again. I never said anyone who likes those things is a ricer. I said the term may have come from people thinking their car is faster than more powerful cars.

ok well a miata is designed to be pushed to the limit and be fun at the limit. it definitely feels fast, esp in the corners. but just because of that, do you really think a lot of miata owners are pulling up to stop lights trying to drag race Zs or muscle cars? that's just nonsense. i've never had a miata owner try to start something with me at a stop light. i've had plenty of other owners of other types of cars try to act stupid with me, but i'm not gonna name which because i don't wanna open a can of worms here.

If your experience matches mine that would be: Civics, Integras, 240SXes, 300Zs, 350Zs, Mustangs, Camaro's, Dodge Ram 1500s, etc... I think almost every type of car has revved on me at some point. Makes me laugh at the stupidity of people. (not because my car is fast, but street racing is such a childish retarded form of racing that I think it's funny people still think it's cool).

Dude, I've been on car forums since I was 21 (9 years now) and I have never seen this before lol... Sure got me...

BTW, combined probably 30K posts over all forums haha... 10K of which on the truck forum for my truck...

I am loving that quote right now, when I get home, might even sig it...

As for this disscussion, might be a dead horse by now... I guess when the car comes out, if Toyobaru does it right, everyone can get a first hand feel of what a "fun to drive" or "spirited sports car" should feel like...

A GTR R35 is fast, but I would almost like to put money down that I would still choose a NC Miata over that to wreck havock on on a daily basis... NC Miata is almost like video game vs GTR = NASA space shuttle...

I'm not sure that's what it originally was, I'm pretty sure the term came from the fact that "riced" cars tend to be Japanese, and Japanese people eat rice. But that acronym is a nice, politically correct, er, correction?

The term "Rice" comes from "Rice Burner." Originally, it was slang used by military personnel during World War 2 to refer to Japanese fighter planes. Then, after the war ended and Japanese cars started showing up on our shores, the term resurfaced as a derogatory phrase to describe the japanese cars.

Fast forward to "The Fast and The Furious" and how people latched on to modifying cars to be as gaudy as possible with little performance added. Now "rice", as derogatory as ever, refers to any car that's drowning in cosmetic modifications as opposed to performance.

Rice: It's not just for Japanese anymore.

Well put, sir.

Back on topic, anything under 2700 lbs is great news! Insurance will probably be insane, but you can't have it all.

That Cavelier is hideous! But what's the car behind it?

Back on topic, I feel like 2700 is the breaking point, but the car is so freaking small, they'd have to load it up with lead to get it to weigh more. It's smaller than my car, which weighs about 2400lb.
