I need to find out the thread/size of that bolt hole on the water pump that might work for adding an extra coolant nipple thingy to.
Awesome, thanks for looking into that! At least we have a solid answer as to using them or not.

Ok, the cylinder block "plug" which could be used for a nipple fitting is part number 11021AA112 but I don't know the dimensions. I had one ordered just to see. It looks like its from various model years though, so its probably a common thread size.

It also might be the spot used for adding an engine block heater.

Edit: There are TWO plugs, one on the driver side that is small, one on the passenger side that is HUGE.

Ok, I'm thinking the easiest route is for sure tee-ing off the heater hoses...

So we need a T that looks something like this:

But with the small side at 1/2" for the oil cooler hose and the two larger sides for the heater hoses at 5/8" (or possibly 3/4"?)

I may have missed it, but is there a reason you can't just use all the OE stuff including hoses, or at least use the original water pick up points?

I would bet the only reason for that is needing to get all the parts, it looks like quite a lot of the coolant lines are different.

I believe at least one of the water pickup points in our engine(vs the dit) is plugged from the factory.

Two reasons:

1) As mentioned the dit bits don't match up completely.

2) The oem bits are EXPENSIVE! Probably $200 for just the hoses and pipes from the dit not including the oil cooler itself!

OK I got my JY WRX oilcooler and my car back from the shop.

I don't know if think of T-ing off the heater hoses will be consistent because when you turn the heater dial to red most of the coolant will travel thru the heater coil rather than the oil cooler, then with the heater off the oil cooler will get much more flow.

Then again when you need to use the heater you probably don't neeed as much from the oil cooler.

So I was looking for some wheel pictures, when I came across the STI concept car from last year.

Note the Forester DIT oil cooler all setup from Subaru already...

That is a good eye. I wonder how the coolant lines are routed.

Probably simular to how the Forester lines are routed.

Used the Torque app to record my Oil temps during todays drive... Note the 260 degree oil temps at the 11 minute mark!

I'm renewing my interest in this Oil cooler now, my only concern now is how its going to bump my autox class around a lot :|

Just read thru this thread. I have had the same idea to adapt the FXT oil cooler onto my FA20.

Tomorrow at work(I work at a Subie dealer), i'll see if i can bring in one of our in-stock FXTs and look over the coolant line routing to see what all we need to make this happen.

I'll lift up both the BRZ and FXT to try to do some comparisons.

I absolutely LOVE this idea over the largely priced aftermarket coolers. I really want to do this.
