also one little thing to add, the last time I checked a v8 swap from Flyin Miata cost about $42k since you cannot simply change the engine and Ecu

Here is a complete list of the parts that need to be changed for those who are interested :

Well...I stand corrected. It may well be light. Idk how much the FA engine weighs. But if it's similar, then your points are good and I agree.. having that much NA power would def be awesome.

Keep in mind that they're not using used parts at all, there's a lot of fluff added to that, and you're paying all the labor.

It's a hell of a lot cheaper than that to do the swap in reality, they just overbuild it because their name is on it.

Now to answer the original question in the thread, because it's STILL CHEAPER than buying a Ferrari or high end Porsche, etc. Not to mention making those people cry when they can't keep up.

Found this on the FRS Enthusiast FB page today. Dunno if it's been posted here but I think it's relevant:

For those of you that say that the V-8 swap ruins the FRS, here is my final corner balance: LS2 fully built, T 56 transmission, full interior, 17 X9 .5 wheels, 275 drag radials, and Optima battery in the passenger rear of the trunk. I'm pretty sure when my car was turbo it was almost this heavy. — at Pure Automotive Performance.

56:44 F:R weight ratio... not bad and pretty impressive actually

Looks like a super tight fit...modified firewall too?

Is the LSx motor actually lighter than a 2JZ or RB engine or 3-4 rotary engine?

How does anyone explain the "need" to modify (improve) cars from the way they left the factory? Fact is modding/tuning/hopping up/ricing (choose term based on your point of view) is a huge part of the automobile culture and has been for decades. Whether you like it or not this forum would not exist without the advertising funds generated by companies that service the modding industry.

All that said, a motor swap seems to be highly impracticle compared to tune/bolt-on and FI choices that are proven reliable on the stock motor. But I do get the novelty aspect and hats off to those who pave the trail.

Granted I've done some small weight reduction mods, I was on stock wheels and tires. There's a slight difference in weights between premium and limited models as well (I have a premium). 177lbs difference with an LS2 and 9.5 wide wheels and drag radials is actually quite amazing.

Ya....in a tiny lightweight little car no less, lol. Mustang V8 weighs 3500-3800..almost 1k lb difference! wow.

Idk if I'd be down to put a domestic engine in the twin tho... I think I'd rather put a 2JZ or Rotary engine in it lol. But, don't get me wrong....NA is always best...especially 430 NA hp

So...now your OK with engine swaps? I'm confused...

FA20 weighs exactly 480lbs engine and transmission that's a lot of weight/complexity/moving parts for a measly 200bhp in a modern day engine.

LS motor is lighter than a 2JZ-GTE with everything else needed to run it (turbos, intercooler, etc)

Lots of cast iron there...
