Getting the custom tune is like being born in Tahiti with a trust fund, the tuners just aren't out there yet. There's just a handful domestically that one could really trust going over 11-12 psi and their booked.

Look at Delicious they got a solid tune on the hot air innovate (very tough job) and they announced that FI FA20 tuning is a side project weekends only.

We have a long ways to go before average joe can go high boost because a local tuner versed in this technology aren't around.

Well if this is Tahiti it's damn cold and there's white shit on the ground, and are trust funds suppose to have a "-" in front of the balance?

I'm just lucky I have the best so close to me lol

What he is saying is that the base map should not have caused this catastrophic failure. No base map is going to put an AFR anywhere near 19:1 at any point. Something else was wrong with the car.

I feel like you post in every single FI thread about how there are no good tuners and/or FI is bad on this platform..

Every base tune I've seen/heard about, including Fullblown's, are always super conservative, usually running very rich.

I would think something else lead to the car going lean.

I just don't understand the desire of people with limited to zero knowledge of cars deciding to pony up $$$'s to blow said car up due to aforementioned lack of knowledge.
OP buy a short block from Full Blown or whoever. They offer a pretty sweet short block at a very reasonable price.

I feel like you post in every single FI thread about how there are no good tuners and/or FI is bad on this platform..

It is bad for the platform, it will get better but a long road ahead. I was under the impression that the installer custom tuned the car. Sounds like a vacuum leak which a custom tuner would catch. But at idle you can be dry lean and not blow a short block. Its when you step on the gas from 19:1 idle that you have trouble.

Its unconceivable to me to have an average joe mechanic install a kit like this on a built motor no less.

All I'm saying is TODAY average "wanna boost" should get a conservative kit with a well tested proven base map (CARB cert or pending is a good sign) and stick to 8 psi.

Too many stories of people jumping right into high boost and I think its a mistake unless you live near an FA20 expert shop.

Just trying to help people.

Edit: And no I never said FI is bad for this engine, its awesome at low-moderate levels, high levels built motors its too early for people to jump into.

I installed my turbo kit in a single car garage with two buddies. I installed my built engine in a driveway by myself and have had no issues at all. Not so inconceivable, you just have to leave the tunning part to the experts

The low price of this car and the ease of making power is always a recipe for trouble in the beginning. When I first talked to my tuner they were very surprised I was doing the install myself and trailering it to them for the tune. They acted like that never happens.

If I was in this situation, I'd call Full Blown, order one of their short blocks and have them re-install, tune and check everything over. That way it is correct, safe and done right.

Even if you like the local shop and mechanic why screw with the possibility again? If he hasn't rebuilt a boxer engine then why let (and pay) him learn on yours? You already will have to buy a short block, reinstall the turbo kit correctly and tune it still. Why risk fucking it up a second time?

It will be costing you a pretty penny no matter which route you take, however you should be golden with fullblown doing the work AND you will have the benefit of more/safer power with their low compression engine so you win there.

Either way wish you luck.

To me sounds like the fuel pump wasn't installed correctly. Had almost the same thing happen to my sti after my tuner installed my pump incorrect and it slipped out of the basket and went way lean and it was just enough that couple weeks later i blew a ringland

Did you check your waste gate and hose connections to it? Maybe a melted boost hose to waste gate causing you to severely over boost in 4th gear under tremendous load getting on the freeway on ramp.

Im going to go ahead and say its either clogged injectors, fuel pump, fuel lines, injector seals, in combination with the base tune.

I haven't had a problem with LJ @FullBlown yet and I'm not the only one I know that is DIY that brings their cars to him.
