i didnt get on it that much, only a few times, but those few times prolly was just enough for the results, i have pics, my car was running way too lean, the engine was takin apart. the rods were banging the cylinders, the piston was terrible, now at this point i need some advice, i know that when it comes to wanting to fast these days it takes time and money, ok i got that, now at first the guy i had working on my car, said im gonna need a short block, which is about 3000.00. then he says he is gonna get a guy that is more experienced with subies to look at it since he feels i would be spending the same amount of money for rods, pistons , and head gasket kit, i dont see that being acurate cuz i seen brian crower rods for like 650.00 and some pistons for about 545.00, and a gasket kit comes to about a couple hundred $, how does that even get close to 3000.00? am i getting screwed over without knowing or what?

Well if the pistons look terrible, Then most likely the block is shot as well. I take it that is why he recommended a short block, (which includes the pistons, crank, all bearings, all rods and it is all pre assembled.)

A base map from full blown motorsports is purely for first start and driving very carefully to an experienced tuner. They are ball park maps, meaning the AFR will be close but not exact. Full blown or any other manufacturer cannot create a one size fits all tune as every car is a little different. In turn, you more than likely did the damage by getting on it without a car specific tune and you managed to lean out your engine causing large amounts of detonation.

With that said, It's time to do the clean up. Go with the short block, If you can get a fully built shortblock from Full blown or Crawford ( I am not associated with either company) or any other company with decent reviews, then go for it, pull the trigger.
Also, this time around, drive it very slowly, out of boost to a reputable tuner after your new engine has been assembled. If you need help finding one near you, let me know and I can find someone for you.

Let this all be a very expensive lesson but look at the bright side, you might get a built short block out of it.

you might be right, i think i did get on it more than what i should have did, i mean i learned my lesson but damn, im still in shock, now when you say pull the trigger are you referring to getting a short block from full blown or just getting rods, pistons, and head gaskets,?

Go with a short block my friend, pre assembled. 80% of the "mechanics" out there cannot assemble this engine correctly, buying a prebuilt short block will save you heartache and disappointment down the road.

Send your car to full blown, that way you know for sure everything is put together correctly and tuned correctly.

Your mechanic actually sounds like he knows a bit, but the fact that your car will be his guinea pig, may as well just go with the absolute pros on this platform, especially since you already failed once already.

yea he does, he works on ton of cars, im goona go with the built short block and coast from there, he thinks the block might be rebuildable, if thats them case it will save me alot of money, my cylinder walls are grooved, and the pistons got melted

To be honest, saving money should not be your top priority at the moment.

Did your mech who installed this stuff give you any warnings regarding it being lean?

This is so true and tuners that really know D4-s are few and far between.

Another case of a uniformed customer getting in way over their head.

Just buy a fricken AVO or similar 8psi kit with a proven/tested basemap and be satisfied with that till there is a formula for such high boost.

We have many kits with our basemap that runs fine. We obviously recommend getting a custom tune or send us a log to confirm. Somehow this car went very very lean.

If it was idling at 19:1 . You would obviously know and feel that something mechaincally is not right. I don't know what else to say.
