Well I have been past sideways and it didnt kick on that I could feel or see. It doesn't stop me from spinning at autocross or save my rear tire from a curb so I'd say it's pretty well off. Disabling auto LSD isn't exactly traction control but I digress. If you want to be right then go ahead

I'm not trying to "be right," I'm just saying that it will still intervene, but it doesn't do so intrusively, and it take a pretty significant slip angle for it to happen, but it does kick in. I'm not the only one it happened to. I went ice racing with group of Toyobarus, and they all had the same experience. The TCS will eventually kick in, and that will set off the indicator on the dash.

why does it sound so scary when traction control turns on? the gear grinding sound from the diff always makes me cringe whenever I hear it. might start driving with traction off all the time lol

I wonder if when the TCS is off (both TCS and VSC yellow) there is a jump feature. I've read some where that some newer cars have a vertical sensor for high vertical G-loads that indicate flight, and it causes the car to go into safe mode until traction is restored? With the one wheel getting air with a heavy bump could this be the issue?

So I have had various experiences with traction/stability control across a couple manufacturers now. One key factor in how it kicks in with it "off" is how much horizontal force is allowed. Chrysler actually has a very restrictive TC/VSC setup compared to the one in the 86. The trick to getting a good drift if that is what you want is to have enough wheel slip before actually entering the drift. This worked on an 06 Charger(I was not driving). I actually have the TC off when I drive as 90% of the ends of the roads I drive have dirt and I hate the power cut and inability to get up and go while taking off. I have experienced vsc kicking in when really pushing the car through exits. I now keep it just below that threshold if I am having fun.

Quote:
If you use the button press (ANY COMBINATION THEREOF) you have NOT completely disabled the systems. 1 - I have experienced at least once where the system re-enabled itself after the 5-second button press and it spun me into oncoming trraffic in the snow. 2 - EVEN IF the system remains "disabled" via the button press SOME of the systems (ABS, Brake-bias) are STILL ACTIVE. 3 - EVEN THE PEDAL DANCE (a step ABOVE the 3-second button press) leaves SOME systems enabled 4 - The ONLY way to truly "disable" the systems is to remove the ABS fuse. Read some of the threads where people have posted their experimentation on the track in all of the above scenarios before you make any more false statements. |

I'm just saying... why would a traction control system kick in right that second and make him "lose" traction?

Well lets see:
I held both buttons until both dash lights WERE LIT. Then I drove, and DURING THE SPIN the VSC & TC Lights began blinking furiously. Then when I stopped spinning in the middle of the road and came to a stop, they were NOT LIT. What do you suppose that means? AND you only commented on my item 1, what about the others? Did you even READ the rest of the thread? |
