Mine works exactly how you described.

which is why I believe there is something wrong with the HVAC system or an electrical problem. I would take it to see if they know what is up.

Same here. You've got that right dude. The BRZ is supposed to be a spartan-type car, keep It Simple Stupid (KISS) and all that stuff.

If you leave the HVAC system on, the AC state remains constant - i.e. if you turn it off, it stays off, if you have it on, it stays on.

If you turn the HVAC off - by pushing the "OFF" button - when you turn it back on again, the AC will be on by default. I don't like it either, but that's how it is.

Ok i just found out that the AC doesnt always turn on by itself. Sometimes it does but it turns off by itself in a couple of minutes and thats when i DONT have it on FULL auto. Now i have a peace of mind. Sucks for those with an old style 2003 HVAC.

umm guys, this is a feature that can be toggled in Techstream. at least that's how I did it for my 10-series. I'm not sure what the Subaru equivalent is for you Limited folks. so now, everytime I hit Auto, the AC light doesn't go on. I actually prefer it this way because even during the summer, I hear the AC compressor cycling every 10-15 secs even though it doesn't need to be. For example, the interior is colder than the HVAC setpoint temperature which I think is a bug in the control system logic.
