I hope you are correct...

However your premise does not support the conclusion. They have demonstrated that they are perfectly willing to run two different engines with minor variations when inventory cost would doubtless be cheaper for a single variant.

Perhaps the most interesting counter argument is, if you read the change document closely, that they claim to have actually altered the camshaft to reduce the throw of the fuel pump eccentric...

There are LOTS of little changes between the "red top" and "black top" engines... will the new pump be totally interchangeable? Will the difference in throw be within tolerance? Will the new pump with the old cam have acceptable flow and pressure? WIll the pump still chirp with the old camshaft eccentric? I have no idea...

Manufactured 3/16, a little over 200 miles on the car. Flowery surface on top of fuel pump. I can already hear the crickets...

Interesting notes based on the parts catalog for 2017:

The service part number (at least for early production 2017's) for the fuel pump hasn't changed, so the old fuel pump should work just fine with the new camshafts and vice versa.
Both engines got the camshaft updates, not just the redtop.
Both engines use the same fuel pump, so they should be interchangeable without issue.

Interesting...I'm in Northern Colorado and I have yet to find a station that has less than 10% Ethanol in all fuel. Maybe I should search a little harder, but it seems 93 Octane isn't readily available here either. However, E-85 is local...Just filled up for the first time over the weekend with 91 Octane (10% ethanol), crickets still there. A little over 400 miles on the car now. I'll be searching for a higher octane / lower ethanol % station before the next fill up to see if this makes a difference.

Shit my crickets are back when I turned on the A/C on a very hot and humid day last week and I haven't had crickets for over a year with my 08/2013 built 2014MY. Car has had ethanol free Shell V-Power 91 all its life.

Thank you for this. There are actually 3 very close to me in Fort Collins. I filled up last night at at a 10% station, but I will try one of these next time.

Not "all" Shell V-Power 91 is ethanol free. It's dependent on the seller.

In the Greater Toronto Area if not all of Southern Ontario, "all" Shell V-Power 91 and Petro Canada SuperClean 91 are ethanol free. All other gasoline have 5 to 10% ethanol content depending on the brand and grade. It's all clearly labelled on the gas pump.

I know in the States it's exactly what you mean as I've driven thru Upstate New York and New Jersey.

I've never seen a Shell that isn't 10% ethanol. I would try it if I happened upon one but I've pretty much given up on getting rid of the crickets by using ethanol free. I'm tired of paying extra for off brand 91 octane just to get ethanol free since it only works sporadically.

Forgot to mention that this is a user edited database so sometimes it's not exactly accurate. I try to keep it accurate for my area by adding and removing gas stations as I see them.
