Posting a reply here as I am trying to quiet my car down a bit as well, mainly because of track dB restrictions. I have a catless EL header, overpipe and catted front-pipe with a Afe Takeda catback. Its all 2.5" and cold starts are about as loud as a machine gun being fired from the garage. Between 1k and 2k rpm is loud but nice sound, a bit of drone. Between 2k and 2.5k is very loud, lot of drone. Between 3k and 4k is very quiet (weird). 4k to 5k is machine gun area and 5k and upwards is surprinsingly quiet (I can hear the engine rather than the exhaust, I can even hear the gas flowing thru the header).
I bought a TRD catback, as I got a good deal used. Its internal diameter where it meets the front-pipe is smaller than stock (yup, not kidding here, its aroudn 1 3/4" I'd say) but it is a progressive reduction, im thinking it accelerates the gas going thru, before they head into the resonator on the mid-pipe. I dont like stock sound, weight, look, and mine already rusted (canadian winters) on the catback so I dont want to buy a stock one and put it there. I will report back (and post videos for comparison) once I put my TRD catback in, altho that will most likely be in march, when I can also swap back to summer tires. If the TRD is not quiet enough (needs to be below 98dB 15f behind the car), plan B is to pray CSG and Ace get that super quiter axleback ready. That was my plan A but it doesnt seem like it will be here in time for the start of next season. Plan C is to put a ultra quiet vibrant resonator somewhere in the midpipe or front-pipe. But I dont want to hack the pieces appart for that. |

I bought it lol! The 80r with my HKS FP and my new open flash headers sounds great in my opinion. It's loud but since the exhaust note is so pleasing I can deal with it

even with catless header/ovepipe/hi flow or catless front pipe installed its still pretty quiet. And the stock catback is not restrictive, its maybe 1 or 2 hp loss compared to an Invidia N1 or whatever but your ears will love you. most of the power gain is headers, then a bit for overpipe and front pipe |
