Hey you should check out easycardiscount.com (http://www.easycardiscount.com/). I live in Mississauga and they got me an Aozora for $35k. I had offered other dealership what I paid and they scoffed at me. Like literally scoffed at me. Also see if you qualify for any subaru incentives like a new grad rebate. I got $750 more off for that.

Is there any particular reason why you're not considering an FR-S? You may get a better trade in value by "keeping it in the family". I wasn't overly impressed with the Scion/Toyota dealership in Kingston, but I've had a good a experience with Belleville Toyota.

I have considered an FR-S (and still do), but I do like having the BRZ perks. Heated seats and the Alcantara, the led headlights, the dual climate controls and the liner on the trunk lid etc..

I can order everything for the Lexus and a lot for the Land Cruiser. The HiLux is too old so I have to source the web for it. They are decent although they dropped the ball once with a recall service performed on the FJ Cruiser.
I also know someone at Tony Graham Toyota in Kanata. I might pay him a visit to see what my options are there. They do Lexus too but I have no experience with them. I am overall not very impressed with Lexus dealerships in general. They push the wrong buttons imo. I am more tech focused and they concentrate more on the luxury experience. They also look down on you if you didn't purchase the vehicle there, at least that is what I experienced at Lexus Kingston. I guess Kingston and I don't get along in the automotive scene.

Should you decide on a FRS, I purchased mine at Whitby Scion and the entire process was painless and got a great deal to boot. There's also a Subaru dealership down the street should you want to take a look at the BRZ as well.

I had a similar experience getting a low ball on a trade when I was shopping for a used 2011 WRX 1.5 years ago. It was simply a matter of a dealer that wasn't terribly interested in my trade so was assuming wholesaler would have to take it.

Ended up buying a better equipped 2011 WRX from a used car dealer that specialized in higher end cars and they gave me much more for my trade. In all ended up paying several thousand less difference for the trade by going to a second dealer very same day as the first. Apparently, the first dealer claimed they actually wholesaled the one I bought to the dealer I bought from as it turned out.

You *might* do better with a dealer that sells Lexus or own a Lexus or Toyota store vs Subaru. A used dealer who can resell your car who has a low mileage BRZ might be an option. 2006 Lexus is 9 years old so keep that in mind. Check Auto Trader.

If you were in the business this is stuff you no doubt already know.

Well, today I decided to pay Toyota Kanata a visit. I know someone there from whom I bought a vehicle before and I can trust.
Tony Graham has Lexus and Scion in their portfolio so you can imagine that the visit was totally opposite to my experience with Suby Kingston.

I showed him my LX and he loved it. He knows that I take care of my stuff.
He showed it to a colleague and he suggested to put it on a auction site because these vehicles usually fetch good money for export. So they did and what-aya-know. It was actioned off at $21500 within a couple of hours. I still have to give my okay (I have 24 hours) but this sounds a lot better.

So know I basically have two options. I could trade the Lexus in on a new FR-S or they cut me a cheque and I can go to a Subaru dealer for a BRZ.

Going with an FR-S would mean that I would save on the tax (13%HST) because I would only pay HST on the difference between the price of the FR-S and the trade in. I would save approx. $2500
But Choosing the BRZ over the FR-S would mean that I get some options I'd really like. But the car itself is $2000 more expensive.
So the price difference is $4500 and thats a tough call.

If I am correct, I get Alcantara, heated seats, Dual climate, better audio, trunk liner, LED headlights for $4500.
If I were to modify the FR-S to match this I would end up spending part of my savings and some options would not be possible like the seats and climate.
And I can imagine the a better spec BRZ would be worth more in the future if I ever decide to trade it in.

What should I do?

Btw, I can highly recommend Dmitri Senkov (the sales rep from Tony Graham). He is great to deal with. He not only acted quickly and professionally, but he is even willing to set me up with Otto Subaru. He knows someone there. So he is not just profit driven like those idiots in Kingston.

you might also get navigation (albeit kinda shitty nav) depending on what head unit the scion has. I had that same choice as you and I went with the BRZ because of the reasons you said. Which front end do you like more? Also you will see less BRZs around compared to FR-Ss if you are into the whole "my car is exclusive" sort of thing

Look at it this way:

-dual climate useless in compact car
-trunk liner $70 at Subaru and 2 minute install
-audio system absolutely not better (but does include nav with a terrible interface)
-HID retrofit cheap and easy and trust me, you don't need to swap the projectors. I have posted about this and thoroughly tested it.

What you DO get:
-leather/Alcantera seats ( nice but Scion seats comfy and super grippy too)
- auto climate control with digital display looks nice but minimal difference in convenience
- heated seats, which really don't make a huge difference unless all leather seats IMHO
-smart key/pushbutton start (I really like)

Scion advantage:
-nicer face, shark look more aggressive
-nicer dash panels and gauge facings IMHO
- the whole 86 thing
-more focus on a pure sports car
-$4500 in your jeans
-BRZ way more common around here.

I chose the Scion based on the looks and don't regret it, but also have a 2015 WRX Sport Tech and enjoy the goodies. It boils down to pure sports cr for me and I ordered my Scion the day they went on sale upon emaill notification, at that time Subaru wasn't on my radar. Look at all the mods I have for about $4500.

Good call, I forgot a about the proximity key and push button start on the BRZ. And I also noticed standard fog lights.

You are right as far as benefits of a dual climate control in a compact car, but the setup and those little toggle switches does look nicer then the controls in the Scion.
The dash panel is identical in the 2015 as far as I know. Just the tach colour is different.

I would say the points for looks would go to the edgier FR-S but it's a close call. I do prefer not having a wing even though it is presumably functional.

And as far as exclusivity in my neighbourhood, I have seen exactly 1 twin so far lol so they are pretty much non existent where I live.

You will have to pay tax on the whole value of the car. The good old government considers the trade in value the equivalent of cash so you pay on the full value of the car not just the difference. Don't think they are going to miss out on a penny do you?
Unless of course the dealer was going to do some finagling in which case you just spilled the beans.

If it were my money, I would get the FR-S and save that $4000+ for something else. That almost your first year payment or a decent amount of aftermarket goodies.


The standard fog lights on the BRZ are lousy. They run a PSX24W (24Watts) bulb so really, its a glorified corner light in a plastic housing. The FR-S uses an H11 bulb in a glass housing. I'm pretty sure its the same that the Outback or Forester uses.
