Also I wouldn't completely rule out trying to find a nice used model. Not a whole lot has changed since the Twins were released and you can find a great deal if you're patient and willing to shop around. I personally bought a 2013 Firestorm MT with 8400 miles for $18,900 (sticker price, total OTD was around $21,000 but I carried over a little negative equity and financed my ttl as well) and it had a Five AD kit too, which I assume the dealer didn't know because nobody once mentioned it.

I'm a salesman at a dealership here so if there's anything I can do to help you out feel free to shoot me a pm, I'd be glad to help.
^ Another option. If you're wanting to haggle, you're better off buying used. Usually the Scion process is more lenient about negotiating price with used Scions.

Here's something to keep in mind that my sales manager always tells me.
"A great deal is never given, only perceived."

Also, the prices of the BRZ on Truecar in my area have dropped. Today I checked and Truecar can get it for like almost invoice.
Also I don't think Subaru does the whole pure pricing thing Scion does. It was a pain trying to negotiate anything on my '15 last year, that's for sure.

As for the whole BRZ vs FR-S debate; buy what you want, it's your vehicle. Obviously there are pros and cons to both models and one may be a better fit for you than the other.

I originally wanted a BRZ but I couldn't find a used Limited 6MT near me so I went with an FR-S and haven't regretted it one bit.

Some good advice here. I agree that establishing a respectful relationship with your salesperson is key. I bought my FRS new, at the end of the model year. I paid well below invoice.

I'd buy used. There are some really good deals right now on these cars.

Unless your dad, mom, girlfriend, boyfriend, wife or husband work at Toyota and you live in the same house or you're a recent grad, good luck getting any discount. I was fortunate and both of those situations applied to me. Father is an electrician at a Toyota plant, and I graduated from college within the past 2 years. That got me about 2500 off the sticker price of the car. Also, the salesman threw in the Halo paint for free (a 200 or so option).

If you want to haggle, just buy a BRZ. No point in wasting the salespersons time because of their company mandated Pure Pricing Policy.

Below invoice or below sticker?
All dealers can be different but they must have been desperate to sell below invoice as they will not stay in business long if they keep taking a loss.

You somehow managed a great deal then. Getting a dealer to take a loss on a new vehicle almost never happens.

My situation was posted 3 posts above yours. TMMC employee discount is dealer cost, with some additional percentage off, varies on the vehicle that you're getting. I think the best deal is on the Tundra, but can't remember off the top of my head.

Yes, but you had the family and grad discounts so that makes sense as there is not a lot of margin in the first place.
I am not doubting what people paid at all, it just seems odd that some regions are taking a loss while others are still asking way above list.
I was very happy with my deal (with all the add ons I got) even though I paid just a hair over list and would not hesitate to do it again.
Shopping for a deal is great but I am surprised to see just how many people seem to think dealers make huge profits on these cars and expect to pay way less then sticker because "that is what they think they are worth". Would these same people be happy if their boss walked in and said "Great job we really want you here but I think you should pay us for a while to keep working" since in effect that is what happens to the dealership when people want cars for less then they paid for it wholesale (Surprise!! Dealers have to buy the cars too they are not given to them).
Again not saying don't try to get a deal but people need to understand that dealerships are a business not a charity and if you can't get a deal don't get all pissy!

The car industry has one of, if not the, smallest mark up of anything. You're looking at a 3-4% mark up over cost. Now compare that to the can of corn you see at your supermarket that has 200-300% mark up. By the time you figure commission for the salesman, operating costs (electricity, payroll, and other miscellaneous costs) the dealer doesn't make much profit on a new car. A used car, on the other hand, has a lot more potential to bring some good money.
