Canada! And if they won't discount the previous year here they sure aren't going to do it in SoCal!

Longo was having a discount when I purchased mines.
Other dealers were trying to offer free accessory money.

Older years will usually have a lower interest rate if you are financing.

Check edmunds for a guideline on what others are paying, also check BRZ prices too.

Buy a BRZ, it's a better deal than the FRS.

If you add NAV to the FRS, it will cost more than a Premium BRZ and the Premium BRZ will also have HIDs which the FRS does not.

Also, the prices of the BRZ on Truecar in my area have dropped. Today I checked and Truecar can get it for like almost invoice.

Once the new model year comes out it's a great time to buy the previous year as the manufacturer often offers incentives to move the previous year. Definitely shop around in your area and see what's available. Also leases aren't always as bad as people say, don't get me wrong, they aren't for everyone but in some situations they can be incredibly beneficial.

Also I wouldn't completely rule out trying to find a nice used model. Not a whole lot has changed since the Twins were released and you can find a great deal if you're patient and willing to shop around. I personally bought a 2013 Firestorm MT with 8400 miles for $18,900 (sticker price, total OTD was around $21,000 but I carried over a little negative equity and financed my ttl as well) and it had a Five AD kit too, which I assume the dealer didn't know because nobody once mentioned it.

I'm a salesman at a dealership here so if there's anything I can do to help you out feel free to shoot me a pm, I'd be glad to help.

As long as you are buying it for the 1st time that's good.

Don't be one of those guys who buys it, then in less than a year sells it to buy something completely different (mustang), don't like the completely different car so sell it after a few months, then buys another 86, then in almost the same day look to sell it to get something completely different yet again (VW GTi)...

This in no way resembles any member of this board and is just a hypothetical case...

If you want the FR-S for the handling difference it had stock compared to the BRZ, then the '13-'14 models are your only choices. For 15+ they changed it and made the suspension setup like the BRZ...

Lmfao!

To OP buy brand new if that's what you want and can afford it. You're very fortunate to be able to haggle with Toyota dealerships in So Cal. Here in Hawaii there's only one dealership that has Toyota/Scion cars. They have the monopoly here so no haggling at Scion.

here is my plan so far. i did some research on a couple of forums and found some good tips.

i do plan on buying a brand new one. my plan is to email every dealer at the end of the month and ask for their best price. then i will use that price from dealer A and email dealer B, to see if they can beat dealer A price. if they do beat it, i will then use dealer B price, and tell dealer A to beat it with their final price.

to even get a better deal, once dealer A gives me their final price, i will show that to dealer B, and see if they can beat it. .

my next strategy is this:

lets say the MSRP is $27k and invoice is like $25k. the hold back is 3% (i believe so), so even if i buy the car at $25k, they will still make $750 due to holdback. therefore, i plan on telling them straight up that i will offer $1k below invoice, so $24k. the sales manager will say "what is holdback?", i know he is going to bullshit me, but i will tell me straight up that my buddy used to work at a toyota dealership and they do have holdback.

im also gonna be financing it with my bank, so if they tell me how i plan on buying it, i will tell them straight up "get me the deal 1st, then we'll talk about that".

Pure Price. Pitting the dealerships against each other won't work. All they'll offer is discounts on aftermarket accessories or throwing some in. Because of Pure Price, Scion is not the brand to try that. Subaru BRZs on the other hand... They're not beholden to Pure Price.

There is $0 holdback on Scions. Did your buddy also tell you that Toyota/Lexus has holdback (but not in every model and it varies per model and grade/trimline) and Scion does not? Look it up. It's on the internet. There is also barely any revenue in Scion. $1,500~ difference from MSRP to dealer invoice. Also on the internet. Again, Pure Price is in effect.

What you're trying to do is challenge them to go against the Toyota/Scion instituted Scion Process of Pure Pricing just so you can get what you feel the FR-S is worth to you. What you probably don't realize is you're also asking them to cost them their ability to sell Scions just so they can sell you the FR-S.

You can also play games with the dealership about financing, but you're going to hate the result. If they follow the Scion Process, they'll be transparent with you. But if you're not transparent with them in return, they'll see you as a rude individual and they would care less about working with you. Trust me, you're not the first guy to play hardball with them and you won't be the last.

From experience, I know people coming in guns ablazing like that into dealerships leave with less than satisfactory results. If they're treating you with respect, treat them back with respect. They're human beings and if you treat them like they're nothing but scum out to take your money, then don't be surprised if they see you in a similar manner.

Just food for thought.
