It seems like the clutch packs slip a little more than when the ATF is new.
The question is, what is the equivalent viscosity of the stock ATF? Or should I try some performance oriented brands? Any AT owners changed to other ATFs than the stock one?

If you are tracking I would start with a good ATF cooler. We use the B&M kits from Summit Racing. Having built several track and road race cars that are Automatics, these coolers are LIFE SAVERS!

As for fluid, Redline High Temp ATF is our all time go-to AT Fluid for severe duty. We also have been using the Full Synthetic Motul ATF as well. Both yield very good results across the board in both subie and toyota transmissions.

That is for Manual cars, not the AT Cars.

Oops, fat fingers. And Amazon.com lists redline D6 as not compatible with a BRZ.
Just some misinformation out there.

@AZP Installs, in one of your other posts, you do not recommend using an AT flush machine.
So it is safer to do 3-4 drain/fills and will it get all the old fluid out?

That's correct, the flushers have in the past caused bent fins on the torque converter by forcing the fluid past them.

3-4 would get a good portion of it out. What we do for our customers is we drain/fill it every 30k miles so it keeps enough fresh fluid in there. The regular service interval is "Inspection" so changing any of it out is better than what's required in the manual.

But yeah 3 or 4 drain fills would probably get about 75-80% of it out.

I've also seen, but don't condone a method where you disconnect one of the cooler lines and "pump" out the old fluid, and suck in new fluid on the other cooler line. I'm not a fan because it can cause air pockets and/or run the pump dry.

Hey AZP, just a question. You said 30k drain/fill whatever that comes out right? So let's say you redline the auto atleast once per ride, the oil will be cooking more. Do you recommend or doing it early such as 15k or 20k? And we should fill it with the same brand that it came from factory right?

The factory interval is only "Inspect" the fluid in the AT, so our drain/fill every 30k is well beyond that and is what we consider severe (unless you are tracking your AT in which case we suggest every 10k and put in a cooler).

For fluid, we use the Redline Synthetic or Motul Synthetic to replace whatever garbage the factory put in there and over time that fluid will fully replace the factory stuff.

Which brings up another question. Do you use Redline high temp or Redline D6.
I ask because the Redline site lists the D6 as equal to the ATF WS from the manual. But the Redline high temp, specifically does not. Another BUT, the specs say it would usable.
So many questions.

I see. Because the FRS is a car I will be keeping for a long long long time, I don't want to be hurting the tranny.
I have a Toyota Camry that has 230k on the original tranny fluid, and it still runs like I have had it since day one.

We use the Redline High Temp ATF in the 4EAT and 5EAT Subie transmissions found in the non-BRZ/FRS, thus far we have not actually had any of our customers come in with AT BRZ/FRSs yet to even check their manual or even see one! Once we do though we'll have a better feel for it.

Thanks, appreciate it, we are enthusiasts first and always treat our customers the way that we would want to be treated if we were dealing with ourselves!

Savannah is a great town, I stop there when I drive down to my place in Fort Lauderdale! Next year I'll have to shoot you a PM and hit up a subie meet on my way!
