You could always do part/most of it yourself and let the dealership do what your not comfortable with to save money.

For example, I'm going to let the dealership handle the spark plugs (and maybe brake fluid) when the time comes. However I'm doing the engine/trans/diff oil myself. I also rotate the tires every 3k miles myself as well.

I'm a complete noob about cars for the most part, but working on this car has been a great learning experience as well as a confidence booster for working on cars in general. It all started with swapping the exhaust in my garage and sort of just spiraled from there.

I just got off the phone with them and they told me it would be $659 for the 30k service. Some of the things involved in the service include oil change, change cabin filter, rotate tires, change brake fluid, something with rear differential fluid, and I think that's it.

I'm not very savvy with car maintenance, so can someone explain if changing the brake fluid and differential fluid should be $659? All the other things mentioned I know are super simple. What I'm trying to avoid is paying $650 for something I can get done for $200 somewhere else.

You're paying labor mostly. The only real advantage of going to the dealer is the records of what was done so your maintenance record is clean in the even of warranty claims.

No, you have to go in the top. The official way of doing it requires lifting the engine up, but it can be done without doing that.
