That's true, but I'm mostly talking to those people that think they don't need a cable and to vendors who market a tune without cable.

Yeah, I understand from a development point it makes sense, but from a consumer point, its just flat out irritating.

For an ecu tech tune I would need to buy the cable, tune, and license all separately?

Or is the cable / license one in the same and a tune sold separately?

I just want it so i can have my tuner or myself upload tunes as they come out without needing to send in my ECU to get reflashed and be able to make it all stock when i need to go in for my first smog.

You can get it all here by adding tune + cable + license: http://www.fa20club.com/product.php?...cat=251&page=1

(note, i have no association with fa20club other than i'm currently running their flash and am a big fan.)

Some people are lucky, I have 2 quality Subaru ecutek tuners within 30 min of my house. I'm still getting a cable though.

I have to correct you lol, Pro-ecu(ecutek software) will only work with ecutek cable.

Considering the damage that could be done in ECUTek's name by someone selling a fake tune, I think their methods reasonable.

There name could be ruined within a week if people running what they thought was ECUtek software start grenading their engines.

Bootlegging of aftermarket parts is pretty common - even fake piggyback tuners (which I thought would be hard to copy).

http://www.unichip.us/vehicle/vehicl...cion-FR-S-20L- its a Plug n Play but Compares favorably to custom tunes done with ECUTek software...

edit: although, looking at the way they have the wires routed in the instructions is rather *meh* , it looks much cleaner when you reroute yourself...and they are in the process of making a molded fuse box cover to make for cleaner install

There is a thread about open ecu. I think that's what the op is looking for. It may eventually become open source but for now no.

Sent from my flux capacitor using Taptalk
