Question about EcuTek + Tunes

Hey all, had a few quick questions to help my understanding of how to tune these cars.

What is the need to the " cable " and Ecutek tune? In other words if I got a turbo kit and brought it to a tuner to have it put on a dyno and tuned, do I need this cable and license? If not what is it for?

My understanding is that it is so you can on the fly change through various tunes/optimize our cars performance with the mods you have currently that dont require to be dyno tuned.

Please enlighten me if I am off on any of this.

you need the license to flash your ECU in the first place.

The cable allows you to flash it yourself and perform logging. You dont need the cable if you're having the tuner do the flashing and you dont want to log anything.

I would suggest the cable if you want to do any warranty work at the dealer.

when you've got the cable, you can go back to a basemap that is single mode, only the OE map

then, after your dealer vist, flash back to your badassed cool map with 4 tunes etc..

most guys want the cable so they can apply updates, patches and pull logs, ya know, be complete. I recommend it.

So the cable allows me to go into the ECU and switch between tunes, awesome.

So I buy the Cable and License, then go get it tuned and the tuner can provide me with several tunes(DD,Race,Valet etc) ?

What device do I use to go between the tunes? Im really only familiar with how mustangs go through tunes with the sct or diablo handheld

Well most tuners on here will sell you the cable, license, and tune all in one. Then provide you with free updates.

You can switch between maps with the cruise control lever if you're using EcuTek. Just keep in mind the tuner you use has to be an EcuTek tuner. The license and cable allow you to load new maps, but the tuner has to create them. You wont have access to change the parameters.

another cool feature for people that dont have access to dyno as much..u can log a run (example a 3rd gear pull from 3000-redline and load it onto virtual dyno and get some dyno results) 2forme showed me a logged run he did on e85 and the results he got from virtual dyno and it was near identical to what he did on an actual dyno. Best bet is to get the cable license and tune..free updates, return to stock for dealer visits, log data, and if u have mods u can send logs to the tuner and he can view logs and make adjustments where its needed

I'm pretty much in the same boat as you are. I use an old SCT XCAL2 for my Mustang, and find it pretty easy to use. My tuner was nice enough to leave all available parameters open for adjustment.
It appears I'll be looking for a laptop before I can get tunes for this car.

So i decided to log a run using ecutek cable and virtual dyno to show you guys. U have to load the csv file into excel first and delete a few rows so that you get a straight run. Here is my results with stocktune/hks filter and if u you look at ft86speedfactory drop in filter thread the hks dyno is exactly the same as mine. u have the option to to select mustang dyno, dynojet, or vitual dynos own dyno sheet ...so the virtual dyno program seems pretty accurate.

edit: now that i look at it they did theirs in fourth and mine was in third so it might be a little off lol...but for some reason when u enter the occupant weight the horespower increases..if i dont enter in my weight the dyno reads 161 and 130 in 3rd gear

If you dont mind, what columns did you delete or point me to the hint of how to edit the CSVs? Thanks.

NM I didn't have to remove any columns with my ECUtek datalogs. Very interesting and sad with my 7000ft air quality.

Well what i did was find a nice spot where i can log a safe run. So i press map acess and log data and roll in 1st and 2nd until i get to 3rd gear and once in hit 2500-3000rpm i punch it in 3rd gear until i reach about 7200rpm and then i stop and pull over and hit log data and map access so the run is saved. When i go into excel i delete the data where im rolling in 1st and 2nd and a little bit of 3rd until i see the data where i floored it. Then i go to the end of my run where theres those few secs where i had to stop and log the run and delete that data too. So basically when my rpm is 2500-7200 consistently i keep anything else before or after i cut. Curious but what numbers did you get and what gear
