I've got the limited and a nissan with the smart access (minus push start) so I know how it works. But mine will only unlock when I touch the handle. Even if I put my hand right next to it, it won't unlock. So the thing about walking up to it and unlocking makes no sense to me. That's all I'm saying.

"frs uses the regular method of if you need to get in the car you push the unlock button. you push it once it will lock the driver door. you push it twice it unlocks both doors. you can go to the dealer and have that setting change where you push the unlock button once and both door will lock. BUT you will need to go to dealership for that feature."

That's what I was looking for. 86KEEBS, you have the answer, see if your dealer can do it!

Thanks for clearing all that up guys! I know there are other setting that can be changed via techstream. I was just wondering if there was a way to do it without. Im sure there is, just have to figure it out.. cycling the key or headlights, lock and unlock together.. different car have different ways I actually opened the owners manual and had a look, and there are a few different "custom settings" that are available. When I go to the dealer next week to get my free touch up paint, I will ask them. If they want to charge me for some reason, Ill just buy the techstream cable

They shouldn't charge you. I spent an hour with my service manager going through the computer's options, lots of stuff in there, but not the single option I'd wanted! LOL, but them the guys here enlightened me!

BTW, out of curiosity, the software let you change between a toyota and subi, and also an MT and AT, what would happen if you did either?

here is a pic of the customizations that can be done at your dealership
second pic is the keyless entry as you can see unlock 2 operation is off which means i only have to hit the unlock button once to unlock both doors. that feature is on as defult setting.
hope this helps

I work at Toyota, just customized mine myself by using Techstream. Simple. Should be done free at the dealership (if the service advisor is smart and not a ****head)

OK....so I did this back in November and it's worked just fine....but recently, the passenger door stopped unlocking when I grab the driverside handle....I've tried to repeat the setting, but without any success. Any ideas why the behaviour reset and can't be re-done?

Do you know what other things you can configure with Techstream? I have a few things in mind that would be great!
  • power folding mirrors linked to the ignition..
  • preventing the DRLs from dimming when in parkers/low beams modes
  • DRLs linked to the proximity key detection area (i.e. DRLs come on when dome lights first come on instead of waiting for handbrake down)
  • auto-locking when key is out of the detection zone
  • auto-locking at >30km/h etc
  • 'Guide me home' low beams that stay on for a few minutes after car is turned off
  • automatic door unlock when car is turned off
  • automatic window closing on lock
  • Beeps when car is locked/unlocked
  • automatic left-mirror parking assist on reverse selection
EDIT: also where is the OBDII port on these cars? should be <2feet away from the steering wheel right? I'll have a crawl under soon...

EDIT2: I found your thread . Thanks for the info there. I'll look into getting one and seeing what it can do. They are pretty cheap.
Awesome, I just had my car ran sacked because I forgot to lock my car doors. I'm one of the lucky ones who has a motorola droid Razr and have auto connection issues. I was in the process of doing the work around to solve the issue and got distracted. There are a few of these features I'd really like to set.

power folding mirrors linked to the ignition..
auto-locking when key is out of the detection zone
auto-locking at >30km/h etc
automatic door unlock when car is turned off
automatic window closing on lock
automatic left-mirror parking assist on reverse selection

If the dealer can help with these, I'm in!

So both of your doors unlock when you approach, or when you touch the handle? I'd like both to unlock as I get in proximity (when lights inside turn on). Is this possible, or only with a touch to the handle?

Okay, I was told by Subie that they couldn't do the auto lock when key was out of range. I spoke to FRS owners who said their car does it. I'm guessing a Toyota dealer could do it for me. Maybe I'll swing by and ask if they can and if they would help me on my BRZ.
