New battery, worse handling

I knew this thread would turn into a heckle show of who can and can't feel the weight difference in their car. I stick with the old equation of force = mass x acceleration.

I pretty much immediately knew there was a difference as soon as I took it on my favorite back road, which has a left corner that normally makes the front end of my car bump up twice, I take the corner on the battery with 15lbs more weight and the front end doesn't respond in nearly the same lively way. Then I tried taking the right corner at my apartment, which normally allows my car to do a quarter turn easily, instead the front right sunk right into to it like a stone, did not feel good.

Too tired now to go out an re-learn the throttle again and test this battery, but I'm satisfied that I've got a battery that weighs nearly the same as stock.

I just got here and I'm 100% with you in perceiving the difference.

I think the OP experienced the dead gas pedal thing after a battery disconnect and a re-calibration of the pedal would have solved it.

That said, a new, new battery fixed it so I'm happy you're all set now.

Never thought of this but yes this would make it feel off for a bit. The ECU needs to relearn.

Well, yeah. I drove my car maybe 40 miles on the first battery, throttle eventually came back. Still the car was really ponderous going around corners. Felt like I had an extra 15lbs of ballast on the front, which it was!

When I swapped to a SHORAI battery, I immediately noticed a handling difference due to high C.O.G. weight loss. Not as extreme as you describe, but definitely noticeable. Measured faster lap times also.
Although many sensitive drivers do notice subtle changes, those with m/c racing experience, and veteran m/c riders, tend to have a greater feel for their twins balance and handling.

It is only an extra 10.4 pounds.
