Very small mark that no one else would notice; however, I know its there so I'll claim it! I backed in parallel to a curb and before pulling out I turned my wheel which put the mark... Oh well, she's a daily driver and if that's the only scar I have then I'm happy!

rub = :(
Yep did mine the first day I had the car. Order a rim from a place online. Have yet to swap it yet as I have had the car less than 1 month. Tire got a little chunk out of it too. Will do soon but not that worried since I have the replacement wheel. The pain is the a$$ is I will need to swap over the sensor too but should not be a big deal. Guessing the tire / sensor swap with balance will cost me $25+.
Just went to local PedBoys...they want $50+ tax to do the swap and balance? Last edited by TStafford; 04-28-2014 at 02:42 PM. |

One of the reasons I like the 215 series tires on 7" RPF-1s on my Miata- the tires will rub before the wheels hit:

I answered "no" to scratching the rims, however I have caught a few curbs with my tires. Thankfully the stock tires on the FRS stick out a bit more than the actual rims itself...I have been extremely fortunate, but I know my time will come.
The other day I was sitting in traffic, watched a pristine white 2014 camara take a right turn into the nearest lane. I believe the driver overestimated on how close the oncoming car in the far lane was actually approaching, cut the turn too sharp and the sound her rear wheel made on the cement curb made my heart hurt for her. However, she just kept driving....I don't know how far she got because her back tire wasn't too far off from this:

Better to scratch the crap looking OEM wheels than the car.

I can relate to some of these stories. When I had my brand new 2010 Cobalt SS turbocharged, I hit a curb within the first 24 hours (I turned my head to change the radio and when I did, I apparently turned the wheel as well). Bent my front rim and nicked my rear rim, but bent the rear hub. Other than that, no body damage. $1100+ (includes parts and labor) of damage ($600 for the OEM rim. It was 18x8 forged aluminum rim
). Eventually got aftermarket rims and had some road debris (did not even realize it) put a nice deep scratch in one of my new black aftermarket rims With this car (BRZ), I decided to leave everyone alone (a.k.a. stock) and so far, no issues with my rims /knocks on wood.However, I have two nice scratches on the car (through the clear coat). As someone else said, it is just a car :\ |

I got a very small bit of curb rash on my back left wheel the first week I owned the car since I wasn't used to parking it - then I stopped being dumb and started using my mirrors which makes it very easy. It was already small to begin with but it got even less noticeable after I got my car opti-coated (which included the wheels), and I do plan on getting new wheels down the road when I decide on what I want, and have the money for it.
After that I haven't had anything happen - although I still get very nervous driving into the parking garage at my work which, like others have described, involves a very narrow lane that curves heavily. I'm always worried about the edges of the bumper and the wheels. I just sit up and take the turn slowly. Sorry to hear about the little accident OP!

My Genesis had bad curb rash on two rims (one my fault and one the boyfriend's). After 36K mi my silver BRZ rims were still pristine. Have 1200 on the new WRB with no issues. This car is so narrow I just don't have an issue. Haven't even scraped the front lip in the BRZ and I sure did in my Genesis. Maybe I'm just being more careful?

slight curb rash on the front passenger side rim (stock rims btw) just last week when pulling into a curb at work. I wasn't paying attention for that one second and didn't look at my side mirror. Sleepy mornings am I right? haha It's right on the edge so it's not that noticeable. I'll attempt to wetsand/fix it and see how it goes...should be a new and fun repair project.
I know it sounds bad but I got use to minor scratches here and there on my daily driver. After one mishap on the passenger side of the front bumper (lightly scraped a concrete column when pulling into a parking spot), I realize it's not that hard to fix if you have the patience and want to learn more about car repairs/detailing. You should see the underside of the front bumper.... My rationale is that if I completely scratch the bumpers, etc, it gives me reason to slap on m0ar aftermarket parts!

Nope, not the stock ones nor the 1.5" wider aftermarket ones.
In fact, I will have the stock ones w/ stock tires up for sale as soon as I can get a chance to take some pics. |
