True that other than BMW is more luxury than sport. I own one ( not a fast one) ... it is fun to drive than the average car but it does not completely replace a sports car... mainly because of weight issues. s2k, brz are more of raw sports cars.

I can answer this one. It is a fun hobby. I am medical, a veteran of foreign war, and my time is precious. So I spend it with my car. I love to sit in it and think of what I can do to make it my own. Whatever that may be. I like to take other people's good ideas and make them my own with a twist. Get my hands all cut up messing around under the hood, but I did my own work. It is a sense of satisfaction.

All 4 cars I've owned ended up lowered a little on 18's. No regrets.

It's not always just about making the numbers better. It's about personalizing the car. I was totally happy with how my BRZ drove/looked when it was 100% stock, but every item on my list of things I've done is just one more way of saying this is MY car, not the same one that everyone else is driving around.

To each their own, my hobbies are golf, tennis, bicycling, hiking & fitness. When I am thru with one of those activities for the day, I appreciate the comfort.

I have 18" wheels with Eibach's Sportline springs (1.4" drop).
At first I liked it, but after 5 months I'm switching to Eibach's Pro-Kit (1" drop).
1.4" look dropped almost too much. The Pro-Kit has a more even and natural looking wheel gap.
This thread talks about the gap spacing a little more:

I run 19x8.5 & 19x9.5 I'll be upgrading to a wide body running 19x10 & 19x12 rears with 305 rear tires later.

I drive my car hard but I don't track it often enough to go 17's or 18's. I like the look of the 19's it fills in the wheel wells nicely to me.

I had it lowered on kw v3's and now ohlins r&t. It drives amazing so far!

Ha, from the bodybuilding thread... I now understand you need those wheels to support a skeletal frame that deadlifts 600 ibs

I like the look of the 19s as well. but i guess they aren't optimally used unless you are putting down a lot of power. I am not sure... closest thing I have to test/simulate on my own is Forza 5

Oh trust me it will put down a ridiculous amount of power when I'm done. Unforutnately custom builds aren't an overnight thing and I drive the car for the moment.

Many like to modify their cars to make it their own, not the same car that the factory made that everyone else has.
It's to personalize ones car.
Also, manufacturers make cars for the mass market in mind, so those who want a more focused car need to modify it afterwards for their needs.
Also, none of those cars you mentioned have near the driving characteristic of these cars, so I don't know where you were going with that.

Here is where I was going:

I used to work on my cars and 'updated" them. Don't do it anymore. Takes too much time. I found that there is more in the world than just two-lane blacktop.

Agreed: A Ferrari does not have the "driving characteristics" as the BRZ, modified or not.
