^Which will have a good deal of its sportiness ruined by 19" wheels.
But if you equate filled wheel arches with sportiness, then by all means have at it.

running high profile tires on tiny rims is consider sporty nowadays?

even if i'm tracking this car, I'd consider at least 18"

What he said. Big wheels do not mean "sporty".

Does anyone have a collection pics of the car with 16-19" wheels for comparison of the look of the tire to rim ratio
If not I will search and post

245/45-16 is? Last time I've check tire spec reading goes

width/sidewall/wheel size

but if you wanna go technical then yes, 245/45-16 run .04 inches bigger in radius then 215-45-17

Well Calum was talking about having to use a taller/thicker sidewall on 16s to have the same overall diameter of stock(215/45/17). His statement was absolutely true and no way around it.

I'm not getting technical about the overall diameter of 245/45/16 tires, because we're talking about sidewall height/thickness. Maybe you didn't realize, but you did quote Calum's "16's will just have a taller side wall".

245/45/16 has a 110.25mm side wall (245 X .45) where as:
215/45/17 has a 96.75mm side wall (215 X .45)

.03" (radius, .06" diameter total) but who's counting? I do have a graph above with that info in it.

The biggest problem with 245/45/16 is tire selection. There are choices for R comps in that size but none of the top street tires are available in that size.

I think both are being discussed.

I was originally talking about gearing (diameter), Calum stated the gearing wouldn't change unless diameter does (true) and that the 16s would have a taller sidewall for that same overall diamter (also true).

I think ichi is talking about diameter and not side wall. Either way, 245/45/16s are larger in both, side wall and overall diameter. As are 225/50/16s. Maybe not though since he did bold the side wall part.

IMO if you are doing this for looks you need to see them on the car you are buying. 20s on a Bentley look much different than 20s on a Civic.

Didn't make sense when he quoted in bold 16's will just have a taller side wall and then counter with "not necessar(ily) true"

Yeah I noticed that later and edited my post, after you read my reply probably. I was basing that off his recent post when he talked about the radius difference and only noticed that he bolded that part when I went back further.

It's not about flaming/trolling. We're all here for mostly the same reasons and just want good technical discussions with accurate info. Sorry if it seemed like I was attacking you, wasn't my intention.
