It's run a little differently in CA but basically the same thing. You just gotta know a guy who will pass your car even if it shouldn't.

At a car meet or g2g in California pretty much EVERY single car is illegal for one reason or another, so obviously some laws are lax and there are ways around the others.

Just don't drive like a jackass and a cop will never have a reason pull you over and "pop your hood."

Moving to a different state is probably the best thing you can do.

I'm fully modded but keeping my exhaust as quiet as I can. There's nothing flashy on my car although I don't have a front plate and I have front tint. I don't drive like an asshole but if I do get pulled I'm assuming they'll get me for those minor tickets and not the big ones. I've heard they've closed a lot of referee inspection spots due to budget cuts so that helps. In 5 years I either need to do a lot of work to get back to stock or find a very nice smog guy but I'm not counting on it. It's part of the price of doing this much work to your car and if you can't accept the consequences you either have to forego the more extreme mods or get a car you don't want to mod in the first place.

For every dumbass thing about this state there is something awesome. It's the sharpest double edged sword in the world! I love and hate it everyday!

I guess not being from that state all I see is the negatives. I honestly can't name one good thing about that state.

If you don't move soon you will be left to pay for the estimated state and local government debt between $848 billion and $1.12 trillion.

Smog should be the least of thier worries.

The car culture in california is big out here. The car you drive tells people a lot about who you are. The modifications you make is an extension of that, and a way for someone to make their car unique or "to make it their own."

I've always modified my cars, but I've always swapped with parts that are CARB legal for the most part. I consider myself lucky for not having been pulled over for mods (knock on wood), but my mods are not obnoxiously attention-getters nor do I drive like an idiot.

Anyways, I just put in my first mod, which is a signed dash cover by Mr. Tetsuya Tada. Thanks for the SoCal 86 OC chapter for putting together a great Tuesday meet.

I wonder though if there's anybody out there who opts to keep their car stock cause it's more valuable to collectors that way.

It's 80 and sunny with zero humidity for 330 days a year. I can ski and surf in the same day. Awesome racetracks for track days (Laguna Seca and Sanoma/Infinion are local). Windy mountain roads. beaches.

But obviously it's pretty much the worst housing market period, the gov't is broke as any state, taxation is high, Scientology, the gap between poor and rich is HUGE, and modding cars sucks. Doesn't stop me though.

I lived in Michigan for the first 24 years of my life and the last three out here, I can say easily I'm never moving back.
