this uneven feel from the engine irritates me a lot . when engine is hot or has done a few miles the vibration goes away a bit . so is this really normal ?

As others have already said, yes it's normal for these cars. Definitely feels rougher than previous Subaru's I've experienced, but they all do it. Retune smooths it out some but it's still noticeable when cold.
