Why would it be? As long as you aren't changing the light output I don't see how it could be a problem. Since the headlight is a projector there is no actual need to have a chrome housing. Blacking it out only changes how it looks cosmetically not its functionality.

Wow... that is different. I'm not sure if I love it or hate it, but either way it has an interesting look! Nobody is going to confuse your car for anyone else's!

I'd like to see a photo from the side, at an angle, to see how the chrome in the high beams look.

Alright guys. We have a failure. I'll preface this by saying this was the fourth or fifth time these were opened up due to experimenting with LED's and with the recent rain one light sprung a leak so I decided to open them both back up and I totally f'ed up the non-leaking light, go figure. I'm not sure what the cause of the failure was because there were 4 possible contributing factors which are:
Food debris was on the bottom of the oven, thanks Denise, and started smoking while light was in. I went a few degrees hotter than usual and a few minutes longer, rushed and not thinking I guess. 225 degrees for 15 minutes whereas I usually go 200 degrees for 10 minutes. I left the top rack in the oven and I usually only leave the one the lights will rest on in there. Radiant heat from the rack in proximity may have caused this. And finally.... They've been baked 4 or 5 times. Bound to happen sooner or later if you keep exposing to heat. The lens bubbled inside. It's like little pockets of air in the plastic. In the second picture you can also see micro fractures radiating away from the bubbled area. I was expecting this to be a $1,000 learning experience but Toyota sells the replacement for $379, whew. Time to bake and move my Bi-Xenon Projectors over to the new housing as well as the blacked out shroud. Good news now is that I have a housing and shroud to experiment on and nail down the LED solution for this housing.

Damn! I looked at the photos, then scrolled back up and saw that it was you, Kevin!
Good to know that the replacement lights are not too expensive.
