Do you just ask the dealer to take a sample or do it yourself? I only get 1 free oil change but figure I might as well use it and was wondering if most mechanics mind taking the sample.

I handed the service advisor my sample bottle and asked that they fill it up when they do the change.

They had no problems doing this.

I would probably get an oil sample pump if I knew I was going to do a few uoa's. That way you ensure you are getting a more accurate sample instead of one taken at the beginning or the end of draining the oil, or one that actually comes from your car (in case the tech messes up ).

you speak the truth! So is it the e85 or the fact that when you're putting e85 in an STi it usually means you're racecar'ing it? This one is the reason my BRZ gets to stay stock and isn't beat on. This report is after like 40+ autox runs I think...ish, could be more since it's every weekend.

Took a sample at 4801 miles and mailed it in on Friday. Will post up the findings, and i'll be taking another sample when I actually change the oil out. Should be interesting to see what ~3000 more miles does to the oil.

Here are the results from my sample. I think the higher silicon levels could be because I didn't clean the fumoto valve before taking the sample. I thought about it after the fact, but what can you do. It also could be because its incredibly dry and dusty here in San Antonio.

So not too different from your previous oil?

I wouldn't worry about the silicone, mine is still "high" according to blackstone and I'm at 40k miles without issue. Either that or my engine is about to blow :P

How's your air filter look? I tapped mine out after 30k miles and it looked clean! still replaced it but I'm sure it can go farther. It's a real nice media compared to the old paper crap you usually get.

I cleaned it a few weeks ago, it didn't look too bad. I'm using the AFE Takeda intake with the Dry filter.

Ranatsu, how many oil changes do you do prior to the first uoa? If Fe, Cu, and Si don't improve on the next uoa I would go back to the stock intake. What are the driving conditions? Any track? Any other mods?

As long as you're letting a little oil drain prior to taking the sample as Blackstone recommends, and also don't wait until the end of the drain, you shouldn't be getting any dirt from the Fumoto. But you can always get an oil sample pump for easier sampling and less chance of contamination.

I changed the oil at around 3000, but didn't send the oil off for analysis. The first oil change i sent for analysis was around 11000. So to answer directly, only one change prior to doing the first UOA.

I haven't been tracking the car, but i've probably got around 8-10 autocross events on it. I probably ran about 600 miles worth of E85 in this sample as well.

As far as mods I think the AFE Takeda Intake dry filter is the only thing that would affect the results.

but everything else would be
Perrin LWCP
SRT Catback
random bushings
Koni sport struts with RCE Tarmac Springs
Running the Moto-East tune

Oh, I forgot about the E85. See the elevated wear on the STI UOA above. That one doesn't show high copper though.

"regal" on this forum pointed out that there are many uoa's being posted here with elevated copper. I would say that if the levels don't look normal by 18-20k miles, it might be time to get a super uoa.
http://dysonanalysis.com/Dyson_Analysis/Welcome.html

Terry Dyson is like hiring a personal tribologist to work for you. Blackstone may point out that you have elevated wear, but Dyson will provide audio commentary on each reading and help you pinpoint the cause for the wear (if it's actually wear and not still break-in noise). He'll also help you choose the best oil for your application.
