Well, you should consider to lower the car (if not done already) as it will look a bit offroadish on stock suspension

Definitely! Just planning a simple Eibach pro-kit to get rid of the gap...

Well, I did read through your car build/journal to see what you were running. Love the rim/tire look you have!!!

Question about 17x8 PF01 with 235/45-17 on Tirerack

So after a lot of research on these forums I've come the realization that I want to to purchase the Enkei PF01 (17x8) with Michelin Pilot Super Sport Tires (235/45ZR17).

I will be ordering these from Tirerack.com. The problem arises when I try to add the tires after choosing the wheel. Their site won't let me pick the super sports in conjunction with the PF01's, I can only choose from a small variety of tires similar to the Dunlop Direzza Z2's. I have to manually add the wheel then go back and pick the tire as a separate order.

The fact that tirerack says these won't fit well confuses me because I've seen many others with very similar or exact setups. Is there some aspect of this wheel/tire combo that I'm missing?

Also, how would 225/45-17's do on 8" wheels? I'm trying to avoid messing with the speedometer as much as possible.

Thanks for your time!

Which Michelin PSS would fit best on 18x8.5? I'd love to do 235/35 R18 but that is not an option. I could go up to 245/35 or do 235/40 with a bit more diameter. Or what other tire options that would be fairly equivalent to the PSS?

I'm just giving you some figures here, but you have to decide for yourself what fits your style.

235/45/17 is way off. Thats about 3% off from factory diameter, and ads about 9mm of additional tire flank to your car. If you go for 235 tires, take 235/40/17, thats just 1% off and -2.5mm tireflank from stock.

225/45/17 is about 1.5% off, and adds 4.5mm to the tireflank. So you could do that aswell.

Another option may be 245/40/17, thats 0.4% off and adds 1.5mm to the tireflank.

Make sure however you get a proper offset on your 8" wheels. something in the +35 range would be ideal (depends a bit on what tire you are planning to use

245/35/18 is the best choice if you want to go as near to stock diameter as possible. Make sure however you get a offset on your wheels of about +35 as long as you are not planing/running on coilovers

How about 17x9 +45 with the car lowered on RCE yellow springs? Tires would be 245/40/17 to keep it close to stock.

That should rub on the struits/inner fender. You need to get a +35 offset, or some 10mm spacers (or coilovers:-)

Is there any way to do it without rubbing or poking? I saw another member's car with 17x9 +35 and they poked slightly. I want it to be as flush as possible, but to avoid rubbing. And I think +45 is the only offset for the wheels I like.

I have KW V3, would I still need an offset? The wheels are +44

See my answer below. I "guess" coilovers would be the only solution to achive what you are looking for.

I'm not 100% sure on that, however from what I saw on the forums it should work with coilovers since the strut on coilovers is narrower than the stock ones, so there is more space available.
But I leave this question to a coilover owner to answer, since I lack the experience to answer it correctly :-)

I have an FR-S with stock wheels and height. For the next year I want to keep it that way except to use spacers to get the tires out to flush, especially the rear wheels. I am considering using 30mm rear and 20mm front spacers, however, I do not want to risk tire rub. The forums are confusing as to how much spacer can be used for stock wheels and height because most threads also talk about lowering? Anyone have the answer for stock wheels and height?
