This guy is just trying to reassure his decision in ditching the 86 for a mustang, hence why he gripes on and on about the short comings of the 86.

The 86 is a fine car; I daily drive mine. It's great on gas and gives me smiles on the weekends, or that occasional beating the yellow turn light. It lacks fit and finish along with all the creature comforts of today's cars.. but it's things I can live without.

I'm also serious that the Mustang will LOSE. Mu is Mu.... mustang needs more Mu than the FRS to be almost equal....so what happens when there is not enough Mu for the Pony? Pony go Mooo and wander over to graze on the pasture off the road surface!
Put then both on decent tires and the Mustang annihilates the frs. You can change the cars to the point one will win but stock for stock or mod for mod the Mustang is faster.

I hate to be 'that guy' but as stated before, there's a place for 'twins vs...' on the forums.

I know even the V6 mustang is faster with stickier rubber on track, but I'd love to see someone do a versus test with Primacy HP rubber used for all vehicles. I'm betting the time delta would be much larger in favor of the FRS on equalized Primacy HP tires than in favor of a mustang or whatever on equalized sticky tires. Would be a very interesting test to say the least...

Back on topic, what can Toyota do to get a blip in sales? Will people with an FRS/BRZ upgrade? I doubt it. A power bump might get those people to trade their cars in and maybe you can poach son people who wanted the car but were turned away due to if being underpowered in the midrange.

If Toyota does come out with a less expensive, lighter "baby" FR-S RWD 'hatchback' with a proven small liter I4 TOYOTA motor as hinted and it drives nearly the same - heck yes I would dump the FR-S and 'upgrade'! ..as long as it isn't UGLY! But if a convertible/roadster - no way! I'm only interested in coupes or hatchbacks - I'd already be a miata or MR2 Spyder owner if a convertible was an acceptable DD option...

I've owned a number of GM V8's over the years however, with the draconian focus on speed limits and the average speed zones round me being 50 and 60kph, I see no point at all behind owning a V8 or even a V6. Engine tech has advanced quite far over the years to the point where the average 6 these days will outperform mass produced 8's from as little as 20 years back and likewise 4 cylinder cars have come a long long way too. Owning a Mustang, in this day and age (to me), is just beyond pointless.

On the fuel front I used to drive a 5.7L Monaro (GTO in the states) like it was stolen and saw 19L/100km economy all the time. Thats on 98RON, which I belive is equiv to the US 93. I still cannot belive how hard I can beat on my twin and still get respectable economy neting 12L(ish)/100km, but slowly improving as I learn to drive smoother.

Must admit I'm pretty in love with my BRZ. I really hope they keep making them and in all honesty I totally see myself buying another, as my next car, even if there has been little to no change made to it in the coming years.

Oh no....what shall we do oh mighty racer?! I think my wife is going to leave me if i keep being left behind fast cars!!! Please help!

Anyway....Dang all that research and time spent writing a comment that is wrong.

I don't know man....me and my wife have smiles on our face all the time when were in this car. I am creating memories everyday.

You should go enjoy your car and remember that you'll always win against a FRS/BRZ.

I agree with you. In fact, I'd be on board if their 2nd gen 86/GT86/FR-S/BRZ gives you a coupe (what we have today) and hatchback/liftback option. It gives a nod to the Trueno and Levin AE86. Adding the hatchback/liftback doesn't even put the vehicle back into the drawing board. Engineering-wise, the technology to make it viable has been around for a long time. The biggest change would probably be at the production plant as they'd have to either add an additional team for the hatch/liftgate portion or train the current team in that section to be able to adapt going back and forth.

I think there's little they can do to blip sales. They can chase hp numbers to make a more impressive stat sheet, but an 86 with more power (and higher price tag) would bring only a small amount of interest of would-be buyers; the r&d wouldn't pay off.

It's too niche. Only a driving enthusiast would truly appreciate the feel of the car. To any normal consumer, the road noise, lack of leg and head room, and basic interior would already turn them away.

Parents buying this car for a child would walk away because it is not practical, lack of space. Guys who value power will look elsewhere. The car does not offer comfort and luxuries that older buyers want. The only people who buy this car are guys who are in tune with driving dynamics or people who buy into the hype and eventually sell the car because it doesn't offer them what they want.

Maybe a price drop of 2k would help for the BRZ? Idk if scion can do that without hurting the TC.

I don't think it would eat into TC sales, as the two cars clearly serve different purposes. Buyers looking for practicality would buy a TC or Corolla over the FRS.
