I wonder mainly because even though these will most likely be well built cars, like all cars they have issues.
They're both Japanese, so about the same. Subaru tends to use cheaper paints than Toyota though, so after a long time (10+ years) the clear coat will be faded.

And BTW, all 3 FT86 are built by Subaru.

Ah so after a WHILE paint would be a difference possibly, not bad though. Oh yes I remember that, I didn't think actual build quality would be a problem, refinement maybe at least for the U.S. spec FRS. I could be wrong though, won't know until you can test them out, see them in person and judge for yourself

I won't beat a dead horse so... I like the options list on the BRZ much better than the FR-S, although I think the FR-s has a bit more aggressive looking beak. :happy0180:

No both cars are built by Subaru and therefore will both use Subaru paint. As far as maintenance both cars will be the same. Your Subaru dealer might charge less than your Toyota/Scion dealer or vice versa but that really has nothing to do with the cars them selves. They will require the same amount of upkeep because they are in fact the same car.

That said If I get the scion I'll probably bring it to the Subaru dealership to get the maintenance done.

I just can't stand the cheap look in the headlights on the FRS. If it had the HIDS like the high-spec Toyota 86, then I could deal with it not having the dualzone HVAC and push start.

Right now I am going Full BRZ limited, or FRS if they really price is low and allow us to get some options that are in the Toyota 86 high-spec.

Remember the BRZ premium is pretty stripped too, its basically a FRS but it adds the HIDS and Navigation system.

I really think Scion is going to price the FRS very aggressive. They have to, or more people will buy the BRZ.

I think both cars look good in the front. I want to see a BRZ at nights. I like the LED halos...

So if BRZ is within $1000 of FRS it is a great deal with added HIDs and NAV.

I like the BRZ premium only because of the HIDs and the black tach.

I don't like the fact that navigation is standard and I don't like the front end and those side fender sill things.

A perfect car for me would be an FR-S with HIDs and keyless push button start.

So if that doesn't happen then my perfect car would be the BRZ limited with a different front bumper however that's already a lot more than I'm willing to spend.

Decisions, decisions.

dont let stealerships work on your outside of free warranty repairs that you cant otherwise do on your own.

Completely. They make cars out of carbon fiber for it's stress resistance, not its shock resistance.

Carbon fiber is a brittle material with high tensile strength.

Damn, just imagine if Seibon made a full carbon fiber kit for this car...holy hell. It wouldn't shave off 600lb's to get into Lotus territory but it'll be a start.

I guess I'm just used to seeing it called impulse or impact resistance rather than "shock resistance". It's true they use CF in automotive applications not only for it's high tensile strength, but also for it's light weight and it's fatigue and corrosion resistance.

As far as I can tell, in mechanics shock, impulse, and impact resistance are all the same.

And yes, you're right, it's tensile strength, among other properties. Weight in particular.
