For those between Brembos (which move bias forward) and FHI 4 pots (no added heat mass) there IS another option. KNS brakes is apparently working on a bracket to mount Nissan Z32 calipers (identical to FHI Subaru units, but cheaper and with Nissan mounting points) that will allow the use of Legacy GT rotors (316mm x 30mm) up front. There's a thread on NASIOC about this if you want to do more research.

Awesome thread guys. I really think aluminum knuckles would be very beneficial to a lot of BRZ/FRS drivers. I am guessing you could cut the sprung weight of the stock knuckle by at least half if not more. Also you would get a benefit of greater heat transfer from the brakes/bearings based on what type of aluminum is used. Oh and also easier to press hub bearings in and out.

I was originally going to use heat on mine, but I didn't want to ruin the finish on the caliper. The plugs are put in with red loctite which is why the heat might be required. I can't believe that I got lucky enough to get all the plugs out with no heat and no issues. Your best bet is going to be a small nozzle propane torch that you can get the heat right on the bolt head. I took my plugs out after I had already mounted the calipers.

I've got a heat gun that I picked up a while back for doing tail lights. So I'm going to try that.

No way a heat gun is going to get those threads hot enough to mess with the red loctite.

Would any of you that have done the swap be able to measure the distance from front of the rotor hat or rotor to the end of the caliper towards the wheel spokes. Just to see how much is needed to fit the front calipers?

My prodrives have about 25mm more clearance than the stock wheels. Im wondering if that is going to be enough.

And just so I/we're clear, the factory wheels will not work with the STi brake set up.

Yea won't fit. Spoke design isn't the best for this type of brake and prob need a more aggressive offset.

By default that doesn't mean you'll be fine..

17s work, but you need to find wheels that specifically fit a 2004 STi.
