Not sure about reliability, but have you looked at the MV Augusta F3 675 or the new 800 (not out yet). The 800 is a seriously fast bike. ~380lbs and 148hp.

That new F3 800 is sex, but I just don't find it attractive; that headlight is just FUGLY. Your run of the mill R6 is so much better looking.

I kind of like it though. No offense to R6 owners, but I don't think that fits his criteria for a bike with character.

Speaking if ugly headlights though, the new CBR front end is horrendous. I spotted it at the dealer and thought it was missing parts.

I wouldn't know what that means as I don't ride, but I was speaking to purely to aesthetics.

If he likes naked then a Brutale 675 might be a good choice. I've just heard that MV Agusta repairs/maintenance/work/parts are generally hard to come by.

Id love to go the MV route but servicing and all dealership related topics would be a PITA as the closest dealership is several hours away.

I have had my Streetfighter 1098 for about 1000 miles now, best bike for me to date. I don't know what you are looking for, but imo if it is something they race in world superbike, it probably doesn't have that much character.

I've thought about everything 848/1098/1198. The problem with the bigger Ducs is that they use dry clutches. I don't really have to spend $200 on clutch plates every couple of times i go to the drags.

The last time I decided I wanted a new bike it was down to the Duc Streetfighter or the much cheaper Kawi Z1000.

Trashed675:

So i'm considering looking for a new(2010+) bike and here are my criteria:
-Must be less then $15,000
-Insurance must be less then $1,000/year(25 year old, no points, single)
-Must have character
-Must be a sportbike/naked
-Must be able to be drag raced(no dry clutches)

The bike list i've put together so far:
-2013 Triumph Daytona 675R(although i'm not a fan of the new headlight)
-2008+ Triumph Speed Triple
-Ducati 848
-Ducati 848 streetfighter
Check out the Kawasaki Z1000. The current model (2010+) Sits in a similar category to the speed triple and the 848 streetfighter. Less expensive, leaving more money for mods!

I've never been overly fond of jap 4's aside from maybe a crossplane R1. Theres nothing really wrong with them, but they don't get my "fuzzy root penis" all excited.

I dont know how hard you are on your clutch, but the dry clutch was a selling point for me personally. I haven't read about low reliability with them though.

With dry clutches you just need to make sure you are not half clutching so often. I love the clacking!
