Ohh ohhh.... Maybe broken black gasket?? Let the car running idle in your driveway for some minutes, check leaks on the floor below fuel tank. I have the part number for the gasket.

car is now leaking in driveway on a left banked driveway. moved it to point down hill still leaking. it did not leak level parked. I think this gasket needs to be replaced everytime pump is pulled out.

Also, how tight did you put the outer Ring? Did you hit it couple of times with a hammer and screwdriver?

Yeah, if tightening it made it worse, get that gasket ASAP. I had the SAME issue which was the occasion I needed to replace the gasket.

I had the same issue the first time I installed the fuel pump where I leaked fuel once I filled up the car. The spot in my culdesac is still there where I parked it and it leaked a ton of fuel. There is definitely a sweet spot as far as how much to tighten the white lock ring. I was watching Xtreme 4x4 on the Powerblock this weekend and the guy actually had the tool designed to remove and install the white lock ring. It allowed him to torque it to spec as well. I might see about purchasing one.

Also guys the pump lid must be oriented one way only so mark it when you remove! You have to be patient and work the two gaskets together as you push the lid down. You may have to pull the lid up a few times to work the lid gasket inside the tank gasket. If you do it right the lid will push down more easily.
Now the most important part to ensure you did it correctly and that is the arrow on the locking ring must line up with the small dots cast into the tank. If all done correctly the ring will screw on by hand about 75-80% of the way and then you'll have to tap the ring with a punch/large flat head screw driver and hammer. If you can't get the arrow to line up take it back off and check the gasket and lid orientation. |
