I have a Canadian FR-S with the upgraded head unit. The mic is nicely hidden right where the map light is. I have also never had anyone complain about the sound quality; however, they can tell that I am in my car. I dont at all need to talk loud for them to hear me, I actually talk just as if they were right beside me and there has never been an issue.

He-he! Funny - I would gladly do the opposite - put the microphone like it is done in BRZ. I even asked the dealer not to install it at all as this piece of crap looks like a tumor with a wire on the steering column... very cheap and aftermarket look.

Poor Canadians are really getting 100% aftermarket stuff with those 2DIN Pioneers - shame on Toyota!

no issues with mic, i do speak loudly, but thats to be expected with any speaker system.

i could imagine that exhausts/coilovers/anything that increases NVH could render the mic obsolete.

try turning down the mic volume on your HU and speaking louder. it may lose some of the noise.

I also have issues. Most of my calls people either complain about not being able to hear me well, and others think I dropped the call completely. It's gotten to the point that unless I'm not stopped or at low speeds, I don't rely on it to be used.

I've tried various mic settings, but I havent tried turning it way down and speaking louder...I'll give that a run.

Yeah the old mic was spotty for me. I threw in a new HU and I think the mic is in a better location as I have had no complaints so far

I've had no complaints with my brz, so I wonder if its the hu or Bluetooth on the phone that's the problem.

I do not have any problems with the OEM mic in my FRS. Actually, I had installed a Parrot Asteroid Smart HU into the FRS and installed its mic to the steering column and the engine noise was MUCH WORSE on the Parrot unit. The OEM mic is actually quite good in my limited experience with mic placement and comparing aftermarket with stock. For my next aftermarket HU, I want to try to find a way to retain the stock OEM mic. According to wiring diagrams I've found here, it appears our OEM mic has a MACC power (turn-on?) signal along with your normal Mic (+) and Mic (-). I could be wrong but most aftermarket mics don't have the MACC.

I have a Cdn BRZ and I'm using iPhone 4. The echo for the caller is terrible. It sounds fine on my end, and I don't need to yet. I played with it for 10 minutes while getting feedback from my wife on the home phone, and even tried putting my finger over the mic while she was speaking, but she gets an echo of whatever she says. I guess, the mic is picking up the audio from the speaker, and sending it back to the person on the other end of the phone. It's apparently very horrible. I don't think moving the mic will help. I turned down the volume so low, I could just barely hear (I was stopped at that time) and she said it was better, but still not great. I'd love to hear some options on how to fix it.

It just sucks. That's why I started this thread. I wish a vendor would step up and try and provide a replacement mic or whatever that would improve the clarity. At this point I feel it is useless.

I'll need to self-record. I talk to people on it all the time, and noone has really complained to me about it.

BRZ Limited--same problem, mic is complete crap, everyone I talk to complains, only help so far is pulling the trim piece down and letting the mic dangle from the headliner and turning the mic down about 1/2 way....I was told it improved quality somewhat but not anywhere close to what the oem mic/entune in the my 2012 camry was! Im using an iPhone 5 btw.

Hey guys,

I found a setting called... wait for it... "Echo". I toggled it to "off" obviously, and it is 100% better. I have no idea WHY there would be a setting for Echo "on". Duh. I'll see if I can figure out the route to take to get there again. I found it by accident.
