I'm wondering if it makes any difference as to which type of tune people are using whether it be NA or FI... If you check off YES could you post which kind of tune you are using?

After taking my wife's car (2004 camry with low km's) for an emissions test in Ontario (Canada, not California) and having it fail with 4 systems not ready then pass 48 hours later after nothing more than a simple drive I bet most of these not ready symptoms are because of driving conditions, not the tune.

Her car was "not ready" on O2, catalyst, evap and something else. She drives it every day, but all city streets and only about 5km each way to work. I took it out, did the 2.5 minutes of idling in drive with AC/defroster on, about 5km on the highway then city streets back, took it back the next day and it passed on all sensors.

Ontario lets cars have a conditional readiness pass if they fail two tests 24+ hours and 30+ km's apart with the same sensors (or less) not ready. If you're selling the car they still do a two speed idle tailpipe test. Any DTC codes or MIL are an automatic fail, even if it passes the readiness test and two speed idle tailpipe test.

I'd suggest anyone getting sensors not ready do similar drive cycle and see if it helps. No clue how to do the idle in drive thing in a manual, and the techs doing the test had no idea either.

I'm not too concerned on my car because Ontario doesn't require testing until the car is 7 years old (or being sold), but it might help people in the states that require more frequent testing.

I've seen these issues on a car driven more than 700 miles since reset. If that's not enough of a drive cycle, I don't know what is....

Why not just reflash back to stock ROM before taking car in for emissions? Am I missing something?

Well that would mean no catless headers for just one example.

This is a big issue in general. Many areas require a clean OBDII check yearly (mines due in 4 months), paying $900+ for a tune and failing emissions will not make many happy customers.

Can you imagine if a guy bought a tuner $5k Vortech kit and fails emissions with no CEL or visual inspection, just from a scan station?

It doesn't matter how many miles it was driven, certain conditions have to be met before the ECU will even check the readiness state.

My wife's car is driven at least 20km daily, never sits longer than over night without being driven and still failed on four not ready sensors.

Idling with the AC/defrost on then a 5 minute highway drive got it through with all sensors passing.

If you have techstream I believe you can force it to check all sensors on the next drive, but I'm not positive.

Reviving an old thread! Since my car never came with an inspection sticker when I bought it, I got pulled over yesterday and a warning about it. I went to the Toyota dealership not thinking at all about my Ecutek stg 2 tune from FA20club and I failed the emissions test, lol. Catalyst: NOT READY, Evap Sys: NOT READY, O2 Sensor: NOT READY. That would be a fail on both the car and my part for not flashing back to stock.

I hope there is a solution for when we go with a catless header. I don't think swapping the header on and off is a great long term solution for inspections.

I've got an FA20club tune on my car currently as well and I have O2 sensor not ready, Evap Sys not ready, but the last time I had this issue with other tuners, it went away after prolonged driving, so I'll check this again once my tune is completely dialed in and I've had a chance to drive it a while.

How long has your tune been on the car?

About a week, and its the first initial tune Toni sent me. I haven't even gotten my revised one yet. I'm just flashing back to stock and going back to Toyota today and it should be fine. I've still got the stock header, but that will be changing soon.

I was less than a quarter of a tank of gas during that inspection. Thankfully the dealer is stupid and didn't pick up on the Ecutek tune. I said I'll have my "aftermarket" parts checked.

I've driven about 14 miles to work, and another 16-17 back to the Toyota dealer soon to get my "re-inspection" now that I'm on the stock tune. I sure hope all the systems report ready in such a short time frame.

Well great news. I passed inspection once flashing back to stock. Just flashed my tune file back on. Hopefully it will settle after a year!
