Unless you consider 2 additional wiring harness' to plug into the factory harness' there is no modifications to get this to work. At this time I don't believe there is a working mod to get the factory mic to work. I put my aftermarket mic for the Alpine in the headliner where the factory one is (BRZ)

Yes.. There is no fix that uses the stock mic.. At least that I know of, and I've searched everywhere.. I'm sure I could solder up the stock mic to the jack aftermarket HU use.. But from my past experience, the mics that come with the HU are better quality... I didn't have a problem with people hearing me on the stock unit, but my friends do say this on is better with no echo at all..

So where are people putting their GPS antenna for the aftermarket units?

The aux input will require some soldering. Either A- from the back of the aux connector, or B- tap into the same wires/connector behind the radio. A user here was supposedly making a connectorized aux adapter, but he hasn't responded to any PM's. |

My gps antenna is magnetic. I stuck it on a metal cross bar that is just off to the right of the radio, just behind the glove box. Actually it's more between the head unit and glove box behind the dash. Then I zip tied it in place. It gets flawless reception in that spot. Nothing but a little plastic and the windshield between the gps and the sky. GPS location locks in just a few seconds.

Didnt look all through this but Metra finally has a single din dash kit out. The model number is 99-8236. Seems to fit pretty nicely if you use the supplied brackets and ISO mount. The supplied trim ring fits nice as well. Id use it before any of the other kits available. Granted its for single dins and not double dins but just an fyi

Thinking of the Kenwood Excelon Series, they are VERY nice. Viewed one in a guys FR-S last weekend, impressive features and fit & finish is tops.

I vote for the head unit that @nzer has. Blows the Kenwoods, Pioneers, etc out of the water on features and is much, much cheaper.

@OICU812 this is the unit I have
http://www.tradesolution.hk/e/ptxweb...duct/1274.html It's a T7019A knockoff unit. Install is plug and play although you need an antenna adapter. Fits perfectly into dash using mounts off side of stock unit. Original bezel goes back on with no alterations. Even starts up with a big Toyota symbol on the screen I have run @2forme's root on it and should work with torque with ELM327 and carscope with OB-LINK but just waiting to test a couple of Bluetooth dongles so hold fire until I can confirm that works. So then you'll have head unit and gauges using an app. Seriously easy install. This is the FIRST time I have ever installed a stereo and I was nervous as hell but with the confidence through support from @Narcoden and @2forme gave me I had a go and whammo, done! See post 1 on this thread for the root instructions from 2forme that unlocks the bluetooth comms I followed and from post 430 on page 20 of this thread from me on my experiences so far with it. It i can get it all working I will post a DIY on what I did. I'm enjoying the head unit at the moment but will LOVE it once I get Torque and Carscope working on it. .
