On another note good for Borla stepping up and fixing the issues. Sounds like they went in trying to make money and are now - revenue.

*edit* Btw Borla headers on other subaru's always had weak welds and liked to leak. Just a warning. Borla = a header for the cheap. You get what you pay for. As for RevWorks header that is 100% american made craftsmanship. No need to dog on them or Nameless. They put in the hand hours and make sure their product is perfect and warranty any needed iteams like anyone else.... We are simply laughing at the company who has failed... That being said i'll stop making fun of Borla when I stop seeing these posts about their bad product. A bad review is a bad review.

*2nd edit* <3 SpeedFactory
+1 Don't get upset at me. I'm simply calling out Borla on this one. They chose to go the cheapass route and machine weld everything. That's why the handmade headers are so much better. Borla can afford to warranty these things when they mass produce junk to just replace it again with junk. Face the facts, warped flanges for multiple customers = bad product. I don't see where the trolling is with this.

Actually, other companies are making a header with much higher quality if you ever did actual research, and guess what? The flanges aren't warped either.

Just keeping the thread updated and semi on topic...and giving credit where it's due.

Borla contacted me on the 22nd, on schedule, to notify me that my replacement header was shipping out and I was given tracking info as well. Today I came home to the box sitting on the porch and I was eager to open it and check out the replacement part as the first one was warped pretty bad.

The box was packaged well and they included new hardware, instructions, sticker, and this time I got a free hat too...lol. (My garage refrigerator wears stickers, not hats) I grabbed a straight edge and ran it across the flanges. All 3 are 100% perfect. The welds look much better and the grinding was kept to a bare minimum to remove welding spatter. Everything looks WAY better. I have to say that I'm impressed by the way Borla handled the exchange and I couldn't be happier with the new part.

Hope the rest of you with warped flanges that are receiving replacements have similar stories.

My THIRD Borla UEL header arrived on Friday via warranty replacement after I had already left for the track. I wasn't able to check it out until earlier today.

I can't believe this, but the header to overpipe flange is STILL warped on this third header. A Borla rep even tried to convince me in our last email exchange after having FedEx pick up the first two warped headers with this:

Quote:
I have had a chance to look over quite a few of the new headers being sent out and I am very confident your newest piece will be free of any defects.
Welp, they are still shipping with defects, at least in the header to overpipe flange.

1-2mm gaps on either side of the flange. Won't seal properly with this defect. The block to header flanges are perfectly flat and would likely seal ok, but that doesn't matter. I paid for flat flanges after waiting several weeks on the newest production run with confirmation from Borla:

Quote:
We are modifying the welding process to add a heat sink which will draw heat out of the headers faster during large production runs, and making the obvious change of leaving the headers in the fixtures considerably longer to guarantee the flanges stay flat when they are removed. We are also able to change the method of welding the headers so that the metal will never get as hot as it was originally in the first production run. Combined with intense quality checks to ensure the flatness of the flanges, we are confident that we will be able to eliminate the problem which was present in the first production run.
They are still shipping headers with warped flanges after all that BS and waiting and emails and two replacements. Unbelievable. I'm initiating a full refund for my original purchase order and will consider getting a Rev Works UEL header now.

ATL BRZ,

The gap seem to be very minimal to me.

You could always use a little bit of ciment muffler to help if you are affraid to have a leak over there + tight your bolts very tight.

I used some ciment muffler for both of my warped and grinded flanges and surprisingly got no leak.

I did that as a tempory solution by the time I got my other header but I can tell you it do the job.

I understand your frustration but I assure you that will seal up without any issues at all. The bolts will torque that flange flat with minimal effort and way below the necessary torque specs. By the time its torqued to the specified amount it will be ruler flat. The engine flanges are the ones you should be most concerned with.

For what its worth, my first flanges were WAY worse than that and I still got it to seal up. I obviously wanted a straight one just for the longevity of the part but it has performed fantastic while waiting for my replacement. I bet 30 minutes after installing it your thoughts of returning it will only be a memory. The improved torque dip and the boxer growl are awesome.

ALT BRZ that's pretty minimal and will seal up fine especially after a gasket is put in there.

Am I over reacting about the warping? Should I be willing to fix their mistakes for the third time myself?

I know it's minimal warping and it may seal up just fine, but should I just deal with it and accept a $730 MSRP product with defects even if they are minimal? How hard is it to put a straight edge on all the flanges to confirm flatness before shipping them?

I'm just over it and I'm ready to give up on Borla. There are better quality options out there and at this point I'm willing to pay more for them.

Yes, you're over reacting. You don't have to "fix" anything..just install it!!

Im with u, 3rd time after assurances it was flat is pretty bad. sure it may fit without leaks, but arnt they suppose to be flat? you wouldnt buy a ruler if it wasnt flat
