The SV was well known for dropping the left footpeg and/or shifter linkage if it's not loctite'd. Best of luck with your 600.

Riding on the street is basically a dance between offensive and defensive riding at all times. You have to mentally train yourself to expect every driver on the road to do something stupid, which means you need to be aware of everything. I've been extremely lucky in that I have only had one accident on the street caused by another driver. I have however broken a few sideview mirrors and one driver side window trying to keep some asshole from merging me into a concrete barrier...I swear SUVs with women drivers are the biggest culprits as far as almost killing me.
I had one chick in a Tahoe almost run me into a concrete barrier while she was painting her nails...while driving. I was also unable to brake or accelerate out of that situation seeing as how I was in almost bumper to bumper traffic, so I hit her window. Surprised the crap out her she swerved out of my lane and ended up in a ditch...needless to say I couldn't have cared less about her welfare at that point. It all happened so fast I didn't even have time to really think about what i was doing...If motorcycle horns were even audible when a car has windows up that might be nice, but sportbikes have jokes for horns, hell you couldnt even hear my Aprilia's horn over the Akrapovic race exhaust I had on it... |

I see that ferring combo a lot where I'm at. Or its the same guy but it seems to be special. Any reason why those ferrings are so popular?

It's an option you can buy from the dealer. It's the Repsol sponsored livery. Costs extra, but then you can wear your Vitton hoodie and DG flip-flops with it and it doesn't clash so much.

Yeah I have noticed how bad drivers really are on the bike >_<. Like I complained about the crap out here in Hawaii, cause you get some really bad drivers, but on the bike im like oh great they NEVER use blinkers (I ALWAYS do) Merging is my biggest fear right now. Biggest reason is because they don't actually MERGE, they just throw themselves in there to get the spot. Luckily the shoulder lanes are pretty wide on the streets I travel so I have an escape route. Yeah the horns are quiet...really quiet...lol. Whats the normal op temp of a bike in city driving? I got to about 180....was barely stopped at all, maybe 2 minutes of a 30 minute ride, 35-45 mph the whole time |

All bikes will be different, and for a single year/model will differ with amient temps. That doesn't sound outrageous.

Hi all! I haven't read too much of this thread. However, I wanted to get some thoughts from you guys. I've had my license for a while and still haven't pulled the trigger on a bike yet. I'm 5'9 and 150 lbs. I was planning on starting on a 250 until the new ninja 300 arrived.
My question to you guys, do you think the ninja 300 would be a good bike to learn on? How safe and dangerous do you think it would be to ride in NJ/NY? I have completed the MSF course and would think about taking a refresher with the 300 should I buy the bike. Any thoughts or opinions are welcome! Thanks! |

I think that Ninja 300 would be a great starter. I rode a friend's several months ago. You may even consider one of the new 500cc Honda parallel twin models. Would be just fine to start on, and you would want to hold on to it longer then the 300.
My 2012 CBR1000RR with a few little upgrades. ![]() How it looks now with the dealer optional rear seat eliminator and Antorini quick shifter installed.

Preferentially, you'd start on a USED ninja 250. Going to have learning mishaps.
Sucks bigtime on a brand new shiny bike. Can usually recoup all your cash when reselling. With a new bike, you'll be eating depreciation right out the dealers door. The 250s work well in town and anywhere except the freeway. It's really stretching at 70. Should be taking the long way for practice anyhow. Try to remember that it won't be your last bike.

Thanks for all the advice. In in the same boat as Rougenite. At the price that I am paying for used 250's, I rather just spend a tad more and get a new bike.
Now here's another question for you guys, abs or non abs? |
