Scroll down. LOL. I believe the title was incorrect. When I inquired with TS, they confirmed my suspicions.

I have made a request to personally adjust an Android unit for my needs:

-universal size
-6.2 capacitive screen (+45usd as the unit he will take as a starting point is resistive)
-100% Android (no WinCE)(min. version 2.3)
-fastest cpu + most ram and internal memory available
-ODB2 (Torque) compatible
-Red button lights (or a way to switch color from blue to red)
-gps with full Europe map

The guy told me he could see what was possible by customizing an existing model (fascia like TUN21A).

Let's hope he can/wants to make these personal changes... and what he will charge for it... (I don't care paying more as long as it meets my demands)

I'm curious to what he will propose... if he succeeds I have an 'exclusive' model based upon the TUN21A looks

I did scroll down, it says it right below the screen size, if it actually is resistive they need to seriously fix their ad..

Here is pic, sorry thats it's small it's a screenshot from my iphone.. But t says Capacitive

It says it in almost dead center, just a tad closer to the top of the screen

Weird, when I looked it said resistive. I even asked them on Ebay when I bought my TUN21A. Sweet if it is!

I hope the root works. I'm concerned about the button interface getting screwy, though.

I would love to see this as well. Let me know your results. I would gladly upgrade to a unit with this stuff. Maybe we could do a group buy?

Only time will tell, I've still got probably 2-3 months before I'll actually pull the trigger on a HU, so hopefully I'll end up with a good one, if I'd play my cards really well, I'd wait till after I park it for the winter and buy the HU when I bring the car back out for the summer ;P

I will keep you guys updated. What quantity will a groupbuy result in? Any wild ideas? (0-5 units or 5-10 or 10-20 or ...)

I think that will depend on the final results and if it comes with all those features.

OK, I got my new kit in the mail. It's the Metra 95-8202 kit and here is how to modify it to fit perfectly:

Starting with a new part, you need to carve out some of the plastic to clear the factory brackets that you transfer over to the new head unit. I used my dremel for this.

Next you need to reduce the plastic lip of the bracket that touches the new head unit. If you don't, this sucker won't fit when you put the factory bezel back on. Your going to remove about exactly half of it like this:

I used my bench grinder for this but you could use a razor blade. The grinder makes it easy to keep a straight edge. The plastic will melt and you'll need to clean it up with a razor anyhow.

Should look like this when your done. I put it on top of an unmodified part so you can see the differences.

Next, I had to knock a plastic lip off from the knockoff radio. Depending on the radio, you may or may not need this step. I used a wood chisel and light hammer strikes and came right off. Don't worry that it looks terrible, you won't see any of the marks when mounted.

Metra kit mounted to the side of the Knock-off so you can see everything:

Finished product:

Hope this helps some other folks so you don't end up chopping up a bunch of parts like I ended up doing!

Yes, I have ADW on it.

The player is PowerAmp and that's it's 4x1 widget you see.

I'm using Audio Glow for the background:

When I was looking at the one with WIN CE and then changed my mind to the T7109A they emailed me and said "you ordered the toyota universal model before if you want cap screen model you should order the toyota universal cap screen and that’s what I have sent to you"

So, I assume the T7109A is capacitive but time will tell.

@2forme I want to test the unit before installing. Is the best way to get an AC transformer (we have 240V AC here) to 12V DC converter and wire that up to the Head Unit. Then I can root it and check the apps work before pulling my dash apart. If this is the best option what output transformer do I need - 12V and what other specs?

.

Your best bet would probably be to just run wires to a 12V battery, either take the one out of your car or if you have one laying around somewhere.

If you chose to go the transformer route it'll probably be a little pricey, you'd have to find a step down transformer to step 240V AC down to 12VAC and then it will need rectifier capabilties to rectify it from AC to DC.. PITA.

@nzer Something like this would probably work but then you'd need a little adapter to have to seperate wires coming from the circilar connector

[ame="http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B004GUSDMM"]LTS DVCPA1250 100-240VAC to 12VDC 1.25Amp (1250mA) Power Adapter for Surveillance Security Camera:Amazon:Home Improvement[/ame]
