Now thats badass. As long as its functional for occasional track use, then even better.

I very much like the direction of that concept drawing; however the end product ends up being, it would be nice if the side/fences blended with the design of the 86 as much as possible. That's the only thing I really don't like about all of the lip/spoiler designs I've seen, save for the Stillen which is just a tiny lip that gets rid of the trunk rear roundness. If the supporting structure for the wing element could look like it was actually one with the trunk lid as opposed to an added on piece it would be the most awesome thing ever. More along the oneness of Porsche 911 GT3 RS lines (well it is a single piece...) as opposed to the multiple bulky and a little unsightly elements of the STi lines (you look and it and see five separate pieces without even having to think about it - if there was a way to make the mounts and upright/fences appear as one piece at a glance and also part of the trunk then you would have something that appears more like a two piece design - wing element with trunk/supports/end-plate; like the appearance of the GT3 RS wing where there's trunk and wing element) ![]() But something like that probably means custom trunk right to make it as one unit.... Is there no way to make add on pieces which smoothly blend with factory panels and look as close to a single piece as possible? At least the GT86 has a beveled side and rear areas of the trunk that could be used to an advantage as much as possible to blend with the trunk as much as possible.

An entirely new trunk would be easiest for what you are talking about. Otherwise you need very shallow angles to make the trunk spoiler subtle.
The concept is five pieces: two uprights, the airfoil, and two covers to cover up the adjustment.

I'm sure this thing is great functionally, but i see two kids sitting on that on a sunny day enjoy ice cream. With all the straight edges, it looks out of place on a car that has so many beautiful curves. |

![]() However, on the other side of the trunk, that is not the case ![]() The sheet metal is very thin and when you are making a lot of downforce, it will be prone to bending and/or shearing completely. However, we may make a tow hook that will mount here in the factory windows cut out in the diffuser: ![]() The tow hook will also double as a mount for the wing that way you can leave the wing or remove it, leave the tow hook or remove it. It will be a heavier solution than we'd ideally like, but it gives you the option to revert everything back to factory with no visible holes or cuts. While it won't be nearly as large or as extreme as the Exotic Air car, to get an idea of what a wing looks like when it's mounted that low: ![]() Earl

Thanks for looking into it. There's a way to make a stout mount to support ~100+ lbs but fabricating a rear support brace may not make it worth it. When I have time I'll have a look-see back there also. I see your point about the shear forces. Thanks for the pics.
At say 120mph at full rake how much weight do you think needs to be supportEd? |

![]() While this solution is not ideal, there are some real benefits. Pros: The wing is mounted to a structural part of the chassis to better transmit the load The load is transmitted at the rear most point of the car for better leverage You get a multi-purpose tow hook (we plan on making a few additional options in the future) NOTHING is drilled or cut, EVERYTHING can fully be put back to stock Cons: The tow hook is loaded in bending and in shear You need to buy two tow hooks and larger uprights so, It is heavier It is more expensive. If you can deal with the additional cost and additional weight this may be the perfect compromise for having a fully functioning wing at the track and removing it for daily driving.

I'm warming up to the fully reversible tow hook option. How are the extra long uprights going to deal with cross winds and lateral forces being applied to the wing element? Seems like it would need cross bracing between the uprights to keep the whole thing from moving left/right laterally.

I like what you guys are doing but do you guys take cosmetic preference into account? I'm just not sure the upside down J mounting looks all that great, is there a functional reason for that sort of solution?
