I just don't see the point of creeping forward with a clutch for TEN minutes just to go one block in Santa Monica on a Friday night.
I am just saying if I drive a AT Fit, I probably will get bored of driving that car.... MT makes me engaged and focused more on the car, instead of playing cellphone and get bored in the traffic. However, I am still looking forward to test drive AT FR-S or BRZ to feel the difference.

Agreed, I had some stupid bitch almost kill me yesterday while I was riding home from work on my motorcycle. I always keep my head on a swivel when I'm riding and watched her go from the far right lane, across two lanes and almost into me. Fortunately I saw her coming and was able to mash the brakes to avoid her. The whole time she did that she had her head down playing with her phone. Needless to say she got somewhat scared when I pulled up beside her flipping her off and screaming at her. She gunned it and took off on the next exit. (the exit was off of the left lane).
a waste of time! as frustrating as it is!.ya gotta learn that if people don't care, there is nothing you can do! ..just sayin'

****ing hell. I would have been doing te same.

Sadly though I can't claim I'm blame free in that category. I don't have a texting plan (seriously, I need to be in a wifi hotspot to text), but thanks to long hours working retail and a crap ton of homework when I get home, I don't have much time to sleep.

I fortunately get enough sleep to stay quite aware of my surroundings, but I miss things every once in a while. I've nearly swiped three people, but thanks to a combination of looking twice and lucky quick reactions, I've managed to avoid them and still keep in my lane.

Thank my lucky stars, right? That and I've apologized sincerely to the drivers I've nearly hit, and soothed any tensions.

On the other hand, I've nearly been hit about 5 or 6 times, and I'm in a BRIGHT orange Impreza.

Autos are AWFUL in traffic. You have to keep your foot PLANTED on the brake because it wants to go on its own. With a stick, it uses the brakes less, and you only move forward when you want to or need to; not whenever you take your foot off the brake. When it's been a while driving an auto, I've almost rear-ended cars in traffic because I forget this...

I wonder about the flywheel like you said b/c my fiance's just went fr a light weight flywheel back to stock in his tC (due to wear) and now it seems the tC doesnt need much throttle to initiate a crawl from stop.
Heavier flywheels makes daily driving easier especially during stop/go because it stores more kinetic energy so it will keep the engine from stalling when you let the clutch out but it also makes the engine feel more sluggish/slow due to the increased mass.

I don't know how light the flywheels are on the FR-S and I'm not saying that its a bad thing. But I'm sure on the issue of comfort vs performance, Toyota definitely designed this car with performance in mind

Yeah I understand where you're coming from. Manual on traffic can be really fun. But the only thing I don't like is when it raining out then traffic is a pain in the ass.

LOL, brakes are only $8-$55 and they last for years! For a manual, you still have to use the brakes to keep the car from falling back and forth on a decline/incline. I understand your frustration though, but thank god I have an auto to keep my driving habits in check.

25mph? I thought we were talking about being stuck in traffic. Traveling at 25mph is not stuck in traffic. Gaining one car length every 10 minutes is being stuck in traffic. No wonder some of you guys are saying you don't mind...

I think it's hilarious when people complain about driving a manual in traffic. Lazy fuckers. Most manuals in production cars are so fucking easy to drive. In my Jeep, I can pretty much just let the clutch out without hitting the gas.

Try driving a dogbox (un-synchronized transmission) and an unsprung 6 puck clutch in stop and go traffic. The clutch was like an on/off switch, and I had to double clutch every shift.

There's no substitute for a manual transmission. This car was made as a driver's car, so in my opinion an AT shouldn't have even been made. And while traffic in downtown ft lauderdale can be a huge pain in the ass; it's the positives of enjoying the simple things like double clutching, heel toe downshifting, clutch kicking to a wicked drift, and being in full control of my car that outweigh the negatives like riding out 1st and 2nd in stop and go traffic.

It depends on the clutch setup really. In a stock car it's all fun and games; hop in a car with a lightweight, single-mass flywheel and a heavy clutch pedal and get stuck in an uphill traffic jam and you're going to hate life.
