Could always just get Enkei RFP1s like every other guy who owns an S2000.

Last week I had my car parked in the Continental Tire Sports Car Paddock. I had the only FRS both days and there were over 50 S2000's. Half of which where sporting RFP1s.

Not hating or understating what a great car the S2000 is. Its better than an 86 in many respects. I just didn't want do be like every other middle-aged engineer out there with one. At least you didn't get an MX-5.

Keep in mind the S2000 has been out for over 10 years, so of course you will see more right now. I predict in a few years that you will see much more 86's than S2000's.

The S2000 is just old....but still a good car. To bad honda killed it. Honda killed so many good cars....S2000, Prelude, Integra, and NSX....

It could be the grass is greener over there thing, but I really miss that 8th gen Si 9000 rpm redline and feel. But when I had it, all I could think of is I wish it had a bit more torque down low. And or HP. Here I am again with 200 HP in the BRZ, and I wish I had more HP/Torque plus the feel of the K series engine. But I know if i bought a 2013 Si I would be like I wish it had the BRZ handling, seating position, etc. Perhaps I just need to go up a bracket or wait until something like the Honda S2015 comes along. But I'd have to agree with those that say the BRZ is a bit underpowered. Sure, it's more than enough for what it is, but I want about 50 more HP in a car like this. And I don't want to supercharge it after all, I'd rather drive this for a few years then use that money to instead jump on something else. My BRZ is fun, so was my Si, both great cars, but both were missing something, so I have not reached the end of my dream car search.

s2000 by far. Better build quality, quicker, timing chain instead of belt.

but since cant buy a new s2000, have to go with the fr-s.

FRS/BRZ uses a timing chain.

I have an opportunity to inherit a 20k mile AP2 s2000 at no cost, or spend approximately 10k dollars to get a BRZ. My father owns the s2000 and babied it, so I know it's condition and service records. Now I realize that it comes down to whether the extra practicality is worth the 10 grand, but what I'm more curious about is what you'd do given the choice. I know both cars would be amazing, but I don't want to be sitting in the brz and regret spending the extra money for an arguably similar car. For what it's worth I'm 23 and the extra cargo room would be very useful, but not sure if i can justify the cost.

Updated with pics (old ones):

Is the S2000 mostly stock?

If S2000 had a fixed roof built into its unibody I wouldn't be driving a BRZ right now. That dealbreaker that doesn't even make this a question for me.

Hopefully he'll keep the car for a while if you chose not to take it now. That way down the road you get the S2000 anyway.

I personally love them. I'm less of a fan of cars that started as a coupe and got a vert version after (not hate just don't like as much)

I gave verts a shot. Had the OEM hardtop accessory shipped from Japan as a pre-emptive measure before I found the car.

Awesome car, smiles for miles. But the back of my mind was still unsettled: a vert is a vert and my band-aid fix couldn't change that. Found myself back where I started wishing it were a coupe. So I replaced it with the next closest thing.

Twice.

Prior to those, I had a Celica GT-S. Didn't like how I had to stay above 6krpm to enjoy the motor since that's not how I drive everyday. The Spyder's torquier, lower revving 1ZZ felt nicer to drive everyday than the Celica's 2ZZ which is why I didn't do the 2ZZ swap. S2K's engine is an amplified 2ZZ. Not wanting to commit the same 2 mistakes (1. vert and 2. peaky engine) twice, the S2K kept itself off my list. The BRZ combines driving thrills of the MR-S with solid unibody sleekness of the MkII MR2. Smoother, direct-injected torque at the low end is just icing.

You should consider your future when buying a car(of course I am being humble about this and am in no way telling you what to do). Even though the S2k you may find is in near perfect condition, it is still a used 'sports car' that we dont know how hard it's been driven in the past. In the unfortunate(Or fortunate) event that you have a baby, at least you can still keep the FRS/BRZ because it has enough space for making additional babies. I certainly dont want a two seater sports car that I will someday have to get rid of because of baby making, I want a sports car that I can keep for a very long time because saying goodbye to a car you made bond with is heartbreaking.
