I see so many people park 'braille'.... great idea for track tho!

This is something we are testing out to see if it works as an option for an oil cooler. I don't have any concrete datalog numbers yet, we're working with different driving conditions/styles and collecting all the data necessary before posting final numbers.

The Setup:

The car belongs to Typerrspec789, it is a Full Blown Stage 1 Kit, 451 Hp on E85

What will the kit include?
-10AN Lines
-Mocal Oil Sandwich Plate
-10AN Adapters
-12" Heat Sink Style Oil Cooler
-Install Hardware

Why use a heat sink style oil cooler?
-The main reason is space saving. I wanted to make a kit that will work with a turbo setup, without running 5-6 fee of lines across the front of the car.

I'll save you some typing time and say this: Yes I know if you google heat sink oil coolers you will find both good and bad results. A lot of people dismiss them because they can get heat soaked easily and flow faster than a tube and fin type oil cooler. The way the FRS front bumper is designed, air rushes through the front grille while in motion and with the foam bumper support removed will definitely keep air flow across the cooler.

On this car I know it's cheating to have the front bumper cutout, but it was already there for the intake. That being said, even without a hole in the front bumper, you will still have airflow across the cooler because of the design. It can be improved on a stock bumper by adding additional air flow in any way you see fit. (vents, holes, opening up the honeycomb in the upper front grill, etc.)

Again, this is preliminary and if I find that it does not work well enough, and I will be honest about results!

Thanks For Reading!
Could this be mounted next to the pod filter?

This might be a stupid question, but what about the bumper itself (the styrofoam)?

Removing the foam is common practice in many other cars where you mount intercoolers etc.

The foam does NOT provide any sort of impact absorption, it is only a filler and helps prevent cracking of the plastic bumper cover in very low speed "bumps"

Do you really think that piece of foam does anything? At least we kept the metal part of the bumper, there are some people who think intercoolers are more important than those, lol.

No, I don't think it has any function, but insurance companies will look for any excuse not to dole out money in the event something happens....

What happens if you rear end someone with that oil cooler mounted there? The only thing between the oil cooler, hoses and fittings is the thin plastic facia of your bumper. Seems like the chance of spewing oil in close proximity to your exhaust manifold is a pretty real possibility, or am I missing something?

What happens if you rear end someone with a side mounted oil cooler and nothing to protect it but the plastic bumper?

It's all the same, if you're worried about breaking something when you rear end someone, don't rear end someone. Intercoolers, oil coolers, piping, etc, it's all in danger when you are in a collision.

umm, part of eurocap testing involves pedestrian protection at 25mph, that foam actually does something...

Really?

I expected better from you 2forme
Foam on my bumper does the same thing as the foam in my helmet

anyone who thinks its not there for a good reason needs to redo college physics. Its what makes the bumper a 5mph bumper

without it, its a zero mph bumper
got that? the foam is VERY functional, it works in conjunction with the bumper supports and beams

The location will not be ideal for anything but a track car. I dont know about other states, maybe its the heat here but folks round here do not know how to park, they will love tap you and then put the car in park. Just hang out at a walmart parking lot for 5 minutes, you see what I mean

removal of the bumper foam also may open you up to liabilities if you hit or hurt someone, so I am careful about anything that affects the designed safety, airbag deployment and impact absorption. I would urge you to recheck if it has any function, I think its function is key

staying on my car
I love the cooler idea, I just want to look at other location, frame rails, behind steering rack etc

To me, it looks like it's in there to hold the shape of the front bumper in a collision. Otherwise, its the same foam they pack in electronics boxes.

Gem, you've apparently never had to deal with insurance companies.
