New Twist On Oil Coolers @ Pure Automotive Performance
Hey guys,
Just thought I'd post up the research we're doing with an oil cooler. This is something we are testing out to see if it works as an option for an oil cooler. I don't have any concrete datalog numbers yet, we're working with different driving conditions/styles and collecting all the data necessary before posting final numbers. The Setup: The car belongs to Typerrspec789, it is a Full Blown Stage 1 Kit, 451 Hp on E85 What will the kit include? -10AN Lines -Mocal Oil Sandwich Plate -10AN Adapters -12" Heat Sink Style Oil Cooler -Install Hardware Why use a heat sink style oil cooler? -The main reason is space saving. I wanted to make a kit that will work with a turbo setup, without running 5-6 fee of lines across the front of the car. I'll save you some typing time and say this: Yes I know if you google heat sink oil coolers you will find both good and bad results. A lot of people dismiss them because they can get heat soaked easily and flow faster than a tube and fin type oil cooler. The way the FRS front bumper is designed, air rushes through the front grille while in motion and with the foam bumper support removed will definitely keep air flow across the cooler. On this car I know it's cheating to have the front bumper cutout, but it was already there for the intake. That being said, even without a hole in the front bumper, you will still have airflow across the cooler because of the design. It can be improved on a stock bumper by adding additional air flow in any way you see fit. (vents, holes, opening up the honeycomb in the upper front grill, etc.) Again, this is preliminary and if I find that it does not work well enough, and I will be honest about results! I can vouch the idea of heatsinks work very well at least on computer applications haha. Would really love to know idle temps before and after as I am sure this will be fully functional with airflow during driving speeds.

can't wait for the results ,and do you think you'll ever post results from a setup without a hole in the bumper (once more people run them obviously)? |

that mounting location is not practical for a street driven car since you have to remove the impact absorbing foam that mounts on front of the crash beam.
