^Not saying that's what is ACTUALLY going to happen, but I think it would be a great foundation and worth the extra money.

An extra 40-50hp is what the car really needs. That would put it in the same category as a lot of cars in the same price range (wrx, gen coupe, msp3 etc-granted they aren't the same types of vehicles) except at 500lbs lower in weight.

the only time i miss my WRX is when gen coupes and mustangs come next to me and try to fool around, but it's probably a good thing I dont have the right type of a car to respond to that sort of thing on the streets anymore

WRX felt good when absolutely gunning it and going super fast; BRZ feels good all of the time regardless of any speed you drive at. although the WRX may have more grip and give you faster lap times (mind you mine was on KW var1 with sticky tires), it will NEVER get away from feeling nose heavy no matter how much suspension work you do to it (you could just add front camber and act like it wont understeer, but fundamentally the car's drivetrain is made to understeer)...

I do miss the turbo rush from time to time, but it looks like there are some remedies for that already

I loved my STI, just like I love my BRZ. Both cars put a smile on my face when I drove them. But they are very different animals. With the BRZ you have to be ok with getting left behind at stoplights (which depending on who you are and your driving record may be a good thing anyway. ) But it's also a much more precise and 'pure' driving experience, more along the lines of a Porsche Cayman. Like others have said, fun in a different way.

I will say if I only had one car, I would take the STI over the BRZ since it really could carry stuff and 4 people and had AWD for the winter months.

Good luck! You can't really lose whatever you choose.

My eclipse is a big, heavy, powerful car. It's got a lot invested; a fully built suspension, 350whp on a Mustang dyno, blah blah blah. It rides similar to my friends sti.

Point is, my brz is a completely different car with a different purpose. If I HAD to sell the eclipse to own the brz, I would and I wouldn't regret it. The only time I'm not smiling with the brz is when I have to park it for the night and go in the house.

Went from a 460whp sti, to a BRZ.

I miss the power of my STi, I won't lie. But the BRZ is a great car. I can tell you right now I hate it because I have snow tires on it so my handling is crap, but when its equipped with the proper tires, its a great time.

I am probably a bad example though because my STi was my first "true" car, and I owned it for 8 years and was my first built car. Selling it was hard but it was time to move on. No matter what car I own in the future, I will always miss that car and have a special connection with it more than any other.

I went from:

550 RWP/602 RWTQ - 300ZX TT
400 AWHP/400 AWTQ - EVO VIII
Stock 276 AWHP - (Twin Turbo) Subaru B4 Blitzen

I currently own a Stock 545 AWHP/470 AWTQ - 2013 Nissan GT-R
In the coming months either a 2013 or 2014 BRZ in Limited trim.

In my experience the 300ZX TT with all of that HP was hard to drive in most conditions. The gas mileage of all of the above vehicles has not been that great either. I look forward to owning the BRZ as there is a great amount of dignity in the simplicity of its design and the efficient delivery of its power. I have no plans of messing with it either as I have learned from the past that once you open up the tuning can-of-worms you are rarely satisfied at any power level. Many times over cars are tuned to a point that is not comfortable or convenient and many issues arise as a result.

I will leave the car as is and believe that the Subaru and Toyota engineers found perfection at its current level. At least until the warranty runs out, lol...

Nate - Completely agree. No matter what, the power is never enough.

I mean, my STi felt slow to me. It wasn't until I was driving around my BRZ for a while and drove my brothers STi or my GF's WRX to realize how fast my STi used to be

Very well put..thats why i'm trying to stay away from FI.

here is my story.

used to own this:

do i miss it? yes mainly because of the attention it got and the noises. EWG <3 however now that i've gotten into my brz i dont look back. sure i miss the power when i quickly want to put someone in their place, but as i've grown up a bit since my STi i realized that you really don't NEED the power to go fast and to enjoy cars. dont get me wrong, i love getting thrown into the seat from high hp cars as much as the next guy, but overtaking people flat out in a corner when they said your car was slow has a special place in my heart

so the sti was dumb quick, practical, and a head turner. however the BRZ isn't exactly a slouch. for starters my sti got 15mpg's on a good day of me trying to behave myself. balls to the wall in the brz the LOWEST i ever averaged was 22mpg's of pure abuse according to the read out. on the highway it barely eats anything if you're below 70mph. the folding rear seats are great, and the trunk space REALLY isn't that small. i've had people sit in the back seat, and it is usable believe it or not. so it sreally not that unpractical unless you have a family of course.

once i modded the car, i realized that this would leave the sti for dead when the road isn't straight. it handles on another level. its so neutral and nimble vs the sti which was so nose heavy and understeered even after i did basically everything to the suspension. another thing i realized is that the sti was like autopilot at times, point the steering wheel and WOT. the car does the work for you, where as i get a greater smile driving my brz, because i can say i'm doing the work, the car will quickly tell you when you're doing something wrong by letting the ass kick out but its never out of hte blue, you can feel everything.

the last key seller to me was the limited's features. keyless/pushstart, dual zone climate control, nav, bi-xenons, heated seats. the interior is so welcoming and nice as compared to the STi which even with the nav unit was still nothing special at all. the sti seats were too big for me and the BRZ seats are incredible. also just the material on the brz limited feel more solid and more with the times.

if you're thinking you'll regret it, you wont. unless you hate DRIVING and like going straight really fast, then yes i can see why you'd not enjoy it.

here is how mine sits as of now, if you were in jersey i'd gladly throw you the keys and let you make up your own mind. in the end though, see what you're happy with. people kept telling me i shouldn't do it or i'll miss this or that. decide for yourself, because on the internet a lot of people really dont know, and most dont own these cars.

Jive Turkey basically put it the best way you can, the things he's describing about the differences, pretty much nails the head on my out look. I traded in my 07 STI, stage 1, I also haven't looked back and am loving what the BRZ brings to the table! I tell my friends all the time when they say, "Man, how did you get rid of your boosted ride for a non!?!?!". The STI would do what i told it to and it wouldn't hesitate, pretty much drove itself. The BRZ makes you feel like your a part of the car and the road, this is my best way of describing what i like about the car.

Pretty much my .02 on the STI vs BRZ... if you ABSOLUTELY LOVE the torquey turbo pulls, then you might not like this car. Your best bet is to find someone near you that owns one, or try to find one at the dealer, and DRIVE the car. It's what put the deal to bed for me on the trade. You should know pretty quick after a 15-30 minute test drive. Everyone's expecations are different, go see what you think!
