When they say a vehicle had a close ratio 6 speed transmission. It's a good thing then...

Closer ratios mean there is less of an RPM drop between gears which in theory means you are more likely to stay in the engines power band as you shift up and allows you to be in a gear closer to the ideal gear for a given corner.

For everyone asking about how he was doing 142 on 5th gear... He was going a little faster then that in 6th and downshifted to 5th..

Having 2 overdrives is just illogical, imho 5 should have been a real gear, 6 should have been OD.

Remember spongebob?

6th is maximum OVERDRIVE

here is the "thing" about top speed.................it is entirely dependant on the CONDITIONS....especially weather-altitude-slope of the road etc......the exact same car could go +/- 10mph on the exact same road with different weather conditions....

140mph seems about right given our modest HP.....

Also true top speeds takes a REALLY long road.....so a car that can hit say 175mph....might take 4 miles.....vs it can hit 150mph in a mile.....

If you are a top speed junky take a serious look at Open Road Racing.....the Silver State Classic runs every May and Sept in Nevada...... Many of my friends with Porsche 928's love it..... Personally I find it too risky-expensive for an event that runs two weekends per YEAR....I can run on the track almost every weekend if I had the budget!!!!

The BRZ can do 147 without breaking a sweat, the FRS probably can't go as fast because it doesn't have the aerodynamic spoiler on the back. The BRZ spoiler improves the aerodynamics and it also compliments the car's look.
