You would be right. You have two choices, add boost and pull more timing, or reduce boost and add timing. The octane of the fuel and knock are the limiting factors. John prefers to run more boost and less timing. He asked me to turn it up, so I turned it up to 14, and he tuned the fuel and timing to match.

i can't wait to see the results of this. 10-12psi safely on pump gas would be awesome. i'd probably stick to 8 around town, but to have a bit of extra boost without filling up e85 would be great. at 12.5:1 it shouldn't be possible, but this motor keeps raising my expectations...

Dynosheets and video will have to wait until tonight. It didn't put down the the horsepower numbers I was hoping for, and we had some issues with the tach input and RPM reading correctly.

You can do it man. You just can't quit when you run into problems, and everyone will run into some problems. I can tell you that driving the car to work every day and enjoying it has made it all well worth the effort.

Okay guys, time for the numbers. Let me start off by stating that I was originally told that they could log boost, but they couldn't log boost. We also had issues getting the tach signal working correctly. I am still not sure it was done correctly because each of these runs are really from 3000 RPM to 8000 RPM. I told the dyno operator to roll into it at 2500 RPM and start the dyno run at 3000 RPM. We also had issues with the AFM1000 air fuel on one of the runs. So overall it was not a great experience at what has always been my favorite local Dynojet where I have dynoed at least 5 previous cars. If anyone knows how to properly log RPM on a Dynojet on these cars, please let me know for next time.

Here is the dyno chart of two back to back runs:

You will note the little torque spike as full boost hits. You will also notice that the torque tails off all the way to redline. The curve is definitely not as smooth as I was hoping for and may have been pulling timing. Ambient air temp was at around 83 degrees F. Unfortunately, I forgot my laptop and EcuTek cable, so I could not log the dyno runs. I did have my AEM Failsafe gauge though, so I know the runs were done properly to 8000 RPM as the gauge logs boost, AFR, and RPM. Here is a graph of boost on one of the pulls from my datalog:

You will note that boost starts out okay maintaining 14 psi and then hits a weird area just after 5500 RPM. I have had this issue ever since I got the kit, but it seemed especially bad yesterday. I get boost spikes and valleys in that area all the time. I am using a 7 psi spring in my wastegate with a Grimmspeed manual boost controller. You will also notice that I got quite a bit of boost taper as RPM increased dropping all the way down to 11 psi at 8000 RPM. I am hoping to mess with wastegate springs and get an electronic boost controller to hopefully improve my boost curve. The car feels great as that big 240 ft-lbs of torque hit with full boost. Here is a video of one of the runs:

As always any questions or suggestions are more than welcome.
